They had to throw out their schedule. The appointment fell on a Wednesday this time -- Friday was the softball banquet -- three weeks before the end of school. The end of the school year always came with a cacophony of events that Carson had to navigate like an intricately-choreographed dance. And every year she seemed to forget it all.
Second semester report cards. End-of-year banquet for the softball team. Graduation.
She almost missed it.
She had to run past the reception desk, risking being tackled by security, and burst into the exam room where Greta was already on the table and half-dressed, the technician and Dr. Henry at the ready with the catheter and the vials and the 'go ahead and relax, just a little pressure and a pinch'…
But she was there.

After a bad breakup Carson decides to drop out of Rockford College and hit the road seeking to find the mother that left her and the reason why.
Eventually deciding to return to school, Carson chooses to transfer and gets accepted into Columbia’s Undergrad Writing Program for her final year. She’s pretty sure she wants to write a memoir someday so she enrolls in Professor Greta Gill’s Personal Essay course. Though not prepared for all the positive and negative emotions and self discovery, Carson is determined to live her truth. But what does this mean for young Professor Gill and her attempts to establish herself in her profession while also learning all about her newest student.
