Summary
What if the duffers actually cared about their queer characters? What if the lesson wasn't that you don't deserve love and that after suffering a lifetime of abuse you have to sacrifice yourself because nothing good can happen while you live? What if season 5 didn't suck?
After the world tore itself open, things in Hawkins started to look a bit different. The party and the military are separately working to solve this problem; the party by hunting Vecna, the military by hunting Eleven. The group is frustrated and doubtful after their major loss, but they are determined to succeed, the world needs them too. New abilities come to light, as do old feelings. Will the party survive the fight for the world and the relationship altering feelings that come to light?

This fic can be read in tandem with the show (for the most part), though I've added a lot of Byler fluff and changed some plot points because the Duffers failed to deliver. Anywaysss this is a fic told from Mike's jealous, lovestruck POV, and is real to me.

Summary
The end of the world shouldn’t be like this. It should be ending with a loud bang or a big, sad wave of applause.
Not like this.
Scattered military bases across a small, rather apocalyptic town, red flashed ground, rain smelling of acid and puke. The scene could remind one of a very bad horror movie, filmed in the sixties on a really, really low budget.But it’s reality, the reality William Byers has started to be fine with.
Well at least trying to be fine with. The raw apocalypse has started to seem way more soothing than attending high school under the circumstances. If will Byers was normal, maybe things would be different, easier and he could pack up and leave the government to the work. But unfortunately this wasn’t the case.(This fic is an ACTUAL ALTERNATIVE for season five & that awful ending we got. Since the duffers can’t write shit I’m taking matters into my own hands and create you guys the most heartbreaking, gut wrenching and touching story YOU’VE EVER WITNESSED)
