Elphaba's gaze followed Galinda's to the watch, her own heart racing with a mix of nerves and anticipation. "Time flies when you're having fun," she said, her voice low and warm.
Galinda's hand trembled slightly as she took a deep breath. "To... to new beginnings," she whispered, raising the flask to her lips and taking a larger sip than she had intended. The whiskey burned a path down her throat, but the warmth that followed was surprisingly comforting. She passed the flask to Elphaba, who took a swig with the same determined look in her eye.

"I have plenty. But you should know I'm particularly well studied in how you will act in certain situations." Beatrice rakes her nails over her open palm to prove a point.
Ava sucks in a breath, moving away from the counter. "I'll prove you wrong."

“Yep, that’s —” a woman sat directly in front of where Beatrice was standing twisted around to face her. It was Ava. Unavoidably, it was Ava. Unquestionably, it was Ava. Unfortunately, it was Ava.
“Oh my God,” Ava Silva declared, a wide grin forming across her face. “Beatrice?”
After a nebulous not-quite-friendship at university, Ava disappears unceremoniously from Beatrice's life. Some years later, the two meet again, in Accident & Emergency.

Summary
Ava rolls over, shutting her brain off, and very carefully presses the palm of her hand on Beatrice’s waist.
Beatrice tenses immediately, a sharp intake of breath filling the otherwise quiet bedroom.
A few seconds pass with nothing and Ava starts to pull away, an apology on her lips, when Beatrice grabs her wrist. It’s so fast that Ava hardly registers what happened, but suddenly, she’s being pulled to the other side of the bed.
Ava lets it happen, helps, and now she’s hovering over Beatrice. She’s so close she can see the shine in her eyes, how wide they are and she can see them flicker to her lips and back up.
Bea’s made this move, it’s her turn now. Ava leans forward, giving Beatrice a chance to turn her away.
When she doesn’t, it’s game over. Their lips meet and every functioning part of Ava’s brain that might tell her there will be consequences to this completely disappear.
The world could set fire tonight and Ava would keep kissing her as the apartment collapsed around them.

Because it turns out the Halo can want things now, sort of. Not the way a human would, with thoughts or motivation or articulable desires. The Halo wants things the way a tree wants water and shoves a taproot through flagstone to get it, which is all well and good for the tree, but less so for the idiot trying to keep her patio intact. Unfortunately for Ava, she’s both the idiot and the taproot. The flagstone is her dignity. The water – for reasons becoming rapidly and unavoidably apparent – is Beatrice.

Ava’s not sure where all this unearned confidence of hers is coming from, but she decides to lean into it. It’s kind of sexy and empowering. The fact she has never won a bout against Beatrice, not even kind of, not even once, is not one worth taking seriously. Today Ava feels lucky.

"Huh?" There's a pause, and he can almost see Ava's brain stutter into stillness before lurching back to life. "Well, um, Diego, it's like — I'm really — if I thought that — see, it’s more like —"
He hears Lilith scoff and turns towards her. "It's not that hard. Kid, Ava's down bad for —"
"Shut up, Lilith," Ava grinds out, cutting her off.

After leaving St Michael’s, Ava does everything she can to support Diego, including taking him to extracurriculars. Beatrice is his aikido instructor, and it changes everything.
