My nation conquered much of the world over the course of a hundred years. The Avatar, master of all four elements, was thought to be lost, and though many hunted him, he eluded all over the decades that followed the Air Nomad genocide, carried out by my ancestor Fire Lord Sozin. But we were wrong. Aang, the last of his kind, returned and quickly learned the four elements. He defeated my father, Phoenix King Ozai and eliminated him without bloodshed while I was defeated by my brother, the banished Prince Zuko, on the cusp of my coronation as the new Fire Lord. Later I helped him search for our missing mother while I plotted for the throne, but when we found her and her new family, I ran. Soon after, I imitated the Kemurikage spirits to turn my brother’s rule into tyranny, with a group of rebellious daughters who I freed from the institution I eluded. But they abandoned me after I refused to save one of them from capture. Now I am alone.
For all my life I’ve known my purpose; my destiny. The path is unknown. But I will find it again. I always do.

Summary
Zuko realizes his destiny much earlier. As in, as soon as he wakes up in the palace after his Agni Kai and is told he is banished. Unfortunately, he's never been a patient one. So he storms right up to Ozai and tells him what he's going to do. And gets locked up for over three years. Then, one day, he's being pulled out and told he's the new Fire Lord.
A "Zuko never meets the Gaang and suddenly becomes Fire Lord after three years of literal torture" AU. In which the Gaang doesn't know what to think of the new Fire Lord who happens to be the missing nephew of Aang's firebending teacher, Iroh constantly has a headache, and, sure, maybe the world hates the Fire Nation, but the Fire Nation LOVES Zuko, and he can work with that.
