“Tell me what happened,” he says. His mother closes her eyes, steels herself to explain. He looks around briefly to make sure no one else outside his family can over hear them. What she tells him nearly makes him sick.

Soap comes from a long line of wolves, who've lived in a content sort of peace for decades. But when one of them is killed, his hunt for answers takes him to the last place he'd ever expected it to.

There’s a great many things that Soap enjoys about life in the tower: it’s quiet, he has all the time in the world to dedicate to his own pursuits, his friends visit on occasion, and he has all the fresh fruits and meat he could ever possibly want right at his fingertips. There on the ground was the body of a massive wolf, its deep brown fur ruddy and matted with blood that coursed its way to the earth below, soaking into the sandy soil at the edge of the stream. Even if the size of the thing hadn’t been a giveaway that this was no ordinary wolf, and was instead the body of a werewolf, the slight distortion of features would. The massive paws that were just a little more elongated, a little more humanoid than that of a mindless canine, the muzzle just a little shorter, a little more muscle bound, and though he couldn’t see them from where he stood, he knew the eyes would be a little too intelligent, a little too piercing.

Summary
John MacTavish hasn't seen Simon Riley since the day Simon rushed him to a London trauma center... and then walked away. The absence made John's road to recovery all the more agonizing, but luckily, the rest of the 141 along with other friends and family filled the hole left by a ghost.
Now, three and a half years later, John finally has his life together. He works for the MOD (and the CIA... ahem) as a civilian demolitions consultant. He's got a house, a (mostly) clear head, and most importantly, a date with someone new to his best mate's wedding.
John's ecstatic to be standing up as Kyle's best man. Unfortunately, it also means standing in the same room as a certain Lieutenant. It's okay, though. For Kyle's sake, John can keep all the anger and hurt festering inside of him in check. All he has to do is avoid Simon for the next few hours, and they'll go their separate ways.
Too bad Simon has other plans that, unbeknownst to either of them, will change their lives forever.

Ghost had scruffed him.
