But it is a Hallmark AU - big city reader goes back home to the small town for the holidays and falls in love, but if that's all there was to this book, it wouldn't be very Mythological.
This story is going to get steamy in ways not allowed for your holiday Lifetime specials.

If someone had told Marco a week ago he'd be sitting in the brig of one of the Whitebeard Pirate ships, he would have kicked them out onto the ocean. Without a lifeline. But here he was, sat in that said brig, bored out of his mind.
They were going to kill him, that much he knew already. And if they didn't, then him being stuck on this goddamn boat would bring death to him on a silver platter. He needed to get out before any of that happened.

"He could say that he hasn't seen Marco since he was a teenager. How Marco had been softer with him for the first time since he was a baby, had kept him with the few Whitebeard pirates who'd come to pay their respects. About the half-serious place he'd been offered on Whitebeard's crew, and how this secret he keeps close to his chest is one that he's still considering even now."
After Loguetown, Shanks runs into the few Whitebeard Pirates who'd been able to attend Roger's execution to pay their respects to their captain's rival. (Their captain's friend.) He sails with them back to the Moby Dick and even after that, until he's seventeen and feels ready to start his own crew.
As all choices do, this changes things.

Summary
Law has heard much of the Whitebeard Pirates' medical operation, when they were still active: a huge, streamlined machine with Marco the Phoenix at its beating heart. Some of the best hospitals in the New World were located on Whitebeard-claimed islands, all of them referring to the Moby Dick's blueprint for infrastructure and logistics. He's not surprised to find the Phoenix in the triage area, patiently giving instruction to a young medic, but he is thrown off at the sight of the man elbows-deep in a dead body.
