    “Please, can I stay?” asked Aizawa quietly, scanning the doctors and nurses bustling through the hallway.

    You glanced at him, the worry in his face palpable even as it hid behind his messy dark hair. His eyes flitted to Eri, and you could sense the protectiveness, the tension in his body as he watched the girl. He reminded you of a cat in that way—his aloof nature belied a fierce protectiveness that would easily destroy anyone who threatened someone he cared about. It was beautiful.

    You weren't a threat, so what was the harm in letting him monitor Eri with you? “Sure,” you conceded. “Stay.”

    He takes her under his wing, refusing to let a child suffer through homelessness on their own.
    Not like he had.

    They work through life together, learning about each other, themselves and building their relationship more and more along the way.

    After all, it was his chance to offer a less-fortunate child happiness and safety he never received growing up.
