Merlin doesn’t stop, either not hearing him or ignoring the warning. Probably the latter.
He crosses in front of him, and Arthur notices that his shirt is splattered with blood. “You’re bleeding,” Arthur whispers.
Merlin continues. “It’s not my blood, don’t worry.”
Arthur’s brain tries to make sense of that statement, fails, and promptly moves on.
Merlin huffs in satisfaction when the last of the chains are removed. With nothing holding him up, Arthur slumps forward and falls into him, and Merlin lets out a little “oof” as he struggles with the sudden weight.
I love you, Arthur thinks, as Merlin grunts and lifts him up, throwing his arm around his shoulder, somehow lifting his full weight. I love you. Merlin's blurry face swims above him, glancing down at Arthur every few seconds in concern, trying to figure out a plan to get out of here with Arthur's depleted strength. I love you. I love you. I love you...
