Kate chanced letting one eye open then, and she shot up as her vision came into focus. Something was wrong. This was not her bed, in her room, in her apartment that she fell asleep in last night, sounds of New York City lulling her like a white noise machine. In fact, this wasn’t an apartment at all.
She threw a panicked look around the room, taking it in. She wasn’t the best at history, but if she had to guess, the room was decorated like it was from, oh, maybe the 1800s. She tried to rack her brain for an explanation that made sense — maybe they’d found some 1800s themed hotel last night, and she’d been obviously far too drunk to either notice or remember. Maybe she hadn’t watched the movie with Newton last night after all. Maybe she was getting her days mixed up.
Maybe she was losing her mind.
