“About Steve.” Hopper interrupted, he noticed Eddie’s worried reaction. “He’s okay,” he added quick, "but I sure hope you two get along.”
Next to Hopper, Dustin was barely holding in a shit-eating grin. Eddie clearly had not yet regained his full mental potential, because he had no idea where this could be potentially leading to. He frowned.
Hopper let out a breath, passed a hand across his face, massaged the bridge of his nose, exasperated.
“There is no good way to say this. He will be your chaperone for the foreseeable future."

Eddie is alive and he needs to get back to life in Hawkins. Steve is still stuck in their small town, lonelier than ever, and gets enlisted to help Eddie return to normalcy. Quickly, they realize they are better off as friends (maybe even something more).
