Instead, he’s going to sit in the command center of the Shadow Operatives headquarters monitoring the frantic communications between the members of a freshly minted team that had requested emergency backup on their first solo mission.
“I understand why you feel compelled to work, Akechi, I do. It’s not easy watching your partner take on a mission without you.”
“Kurusu is not my partner,” Goro lies, and it’s like driving a knife through his broken ribs.

“If you want to show us how to beat Akira at darts, you should. You’re always invited y’know.”
Akechi raised a perfectly arched eyebrow.
“You seriously think any of them actually want me there?”
“Well…” she couldn’t meet his gaze once more, choosing to watch her shoe repeatedly scuff the floor. The pink hue was back, and Akechi watched with wonder at how it filled her cheeks. Before he could reply with a no doubt sardonic remark, she finished her sentence.
“I always want you there.”
-Akechi was cold, aloof, distant - gone was the charming facade of the Detective Prince. Out of necessity, he would work alongside the Phantom Thieves once more, and then return to his reality. No need to create fake friendships, no need for any meaningless complications, just get the job done. Easy, right? Of course not.
An impromptu invitation to his usual jazz club throws Akechi’s neat little plan into question, all because of her. Her stubbornness, her sentimentality, her easy going smile. She was constantly irritatingly, on his mind. If only he could understand why.
This is written in 3rd person and can be read as an OC or reader insert!
