Sonic would probably be doing worse though, he rationalises. He’s still never been able to get over his fear of water, and would’ve just hurt himself in attempting to escape. Plus, with how tight a fit Tails is, Sonic would’ve found it near impossible to move around.
Really, he made the right choice, he decides as the water climbs to his shoulders.When Tails' decision to save Sonic from Eggman's latest trap ends with him in a race against time, help arrives in a form even Tails' genius couldn't have expected.

He’s not expecting Wukong to try and hurt him, he’s never raised a hand to Macaque in anger in the entire time they’ve known each other, but he’s looking manic, completely different from the Wukong Macaque knows and loves. He looks wild. “Are you...okay?” Macaque asks tentatively, wincing as soon as the words leave his mouth.
Wukong bares his teeth in a poor imitation of a smile. “Fuckin’ peachy.”
Macaque leaves, and then subsequently comes back.
