Summary
Buck must decide what to do, now that he’s not under the power of Eddie-wanting-him-as-a-mate. Waiting for Abby doesn’t seem sustainable long term, and Eddie did offer himself on a plate… but he’s not available now, he’s still married. Working with Eddie is a challenge that Buck will have to face while making his decision and hoping it won’t influence anything.

Summary
The good thing and bad thing about Buck's loft is that it provided natural light, so Eddie could see how the bruising was looking.
"Who did this to you?" He was trying to keep the anger out of his voice as he gently let go of Buck's face, who ducked it down as soon as it was free.
"Chimney." He mumbled, cheeks heating up, whether from embarrassment or anger, Eddie couldn't tell. It left him a little off-balance, like he’d been caught reacting before he’d had time to think it through.

“Okay,” Chim said, voice rough but steady. “That’s it. It’s down. Everyone in one piece?”
“Good here,” Ravi said, brushing dust off his jacket.
“Same,” Harry added.
“Yep,” Eddie said with a short, sarcastic laugh. “And you called me ridiculous for not trusting technology. Guess I was right all along, huh?”
He waited for the usual comeback, the snort, the eye-roll, something from Buck to break the tension.
But all that came back was a wet, choking gurgle.
Snapping his attention to the source, Eddie saw Buck leaning against the wall, hands gripping his throat, blood seeping through his fingers.
Eddie froze.

In hindsight, of all the ways to get stabbed, Buck thinks a medical robot might be the funniest one possible.
But at the moment? It hurts like a bitch.
“Buck! Buck!” He hears Eddie shouting from outside the locked door as he frantically throws himself at it over and over.
The door gives out at the same time Buck’s legs do.

Summary
Eddie wakes up with someone’s arms wrapped around him. Which is very concerning because he went to bed alone last night, like he’s done every night for over a year now.
He scrambles out of the bed, completely ungracefully, landing flat on his ass in a room that is unmistakably not his own. His heart hammers in his chest as he tries to make sense of it all in his just woken state. He peers over the mattress, to the person that was holding him, and he’s pretty sure his heart gives out all together.
“Maddie?”
She yawns from the bed, not opening her eyes, curling further into the pillow. “It’s too early, Howie, the alarm hasn’t gone off yet.”

It’s something about the way Eddie phrases it. Something about the combination of his words and the way he’s staring down at the floor, and the flush in his cheeks and the way he’s fidgeting. Buck thinks, abruptly, he’s going to ask me on a date.
“Well I - wanted to tell you first, and I need someone to watch Chris, anyways - I know he’s getting old enough now he doesn’t like feeling like he’s got a babysitter, so I was hoping - sorry. Not the point. Uh. I have a date on Saturday.”
Just as abruptly as his own hopes had come soaring up above the cloud cover of his own unawareness - they go crashing back down to the floor - to the basement, and into the mud. “A date?” Buck rasps out.

"You look exactly the same," Eddie says with tears in his eyes. "How is that even possible?"
"I don't know," Buck says, his thumb swiping across Eddie's knuckles. "I don't understand it."
He may be the same, but looking at Eddie, Buck can see the years on him. His hair is a bit different, the creases by the corners of his eyes just a bit deeper. There's a new scar on his right hand that Buck hasn't seen before.He'd know these hands blind, but it takes him a moment to notice it still. His fingers brush over it once, and then again before he actually looks down and sees the thin golden band wrapped around Eddie's ring finger. Then he just—stares at it, stupidly, for a second. Before Eddie pulls his hands back, and leaves Buck's hanging empty in the space between them.
"You're married," he says.
