“Jack, it’s Riley’s dad,” Mac stammered, “he was at her house. He came to the door when we got there. She…”
“What?” Jack demanded, his voice low and hard in a way Mac wasn’t used to. “Elwood was at Diane’s house, are you sure?”
“Yes, I think Riley was scared.”
“Did you see Diane?”
“No. I just dropped Riley off and left, should I go back?” Mac twisted in his seat to look over his shoulder as if he could see past the distance that separated them and into Diane and Riley’s home. “If something bad is happening shouldn’t I go back there?”
“No,” Mac heard Jack moving and the sound of a door slamming. “You should come home. I’m going to take care of things.”
