Link sat still on the shoreline, the heels of his boots digging into the sands of Clarnet Coast. His gaze was fixed on the foam capped waves, silent tears stinging his eyes. Trembling hands were coated with dried blood. The Master Sword lay half buried in the sand beside him, its sacred blade streaked with crimson as well. A breeze swept over his skin and ruffled through his disheveled bangs. With that breeze, chills ran up his spine and he shuddered, flashing back to several hours prior.

Freedom.
Released at last from her hundred year battle, Zelda navigates her grief and endeavors to find her place in a Hyrule that no longer resembles the home she knew. Link struggles to regain his memories while offering steady support, an unspoken loyalty between them that leads to helping her build the life she wants.
Though Zelda begins to find happiness settled in Hateno, she still suffers nightmares which she fears have more substance than mere dreams. Just when she tries to find answers, the Yiga, helmed by Kohga's successor, begin growing their ranks in order to regain control of their once lost technology.

Despite their lack of a leader, the remaining members waste no time in exacting revenge on the Hylian Champion. Though it takes little time for Link's allies to rescue him, the Yiga's torment leaves lasting effects. Something is wrong with him. Very wrong. [Post-BOTW]

Zelda had been prepared for the Shrine of Resurrection to strip Link of his memories. That much had been written. What she wasn't expecting was for it to strip away something far more vital: his ability to feel emotions.
She will do anything in her power to fix him.

And why does Link insist on calling her "Princess" when she isn't much of a princess anymore?
