This is what she had molded herself to be for the last twenty years. Someone who had walls, who bit back at every hand that tried to feed her. The barbs she threw used to hurt her as much as she could see it hurt the other spirits around her, but she numbed herself to the pain over time. It’s a sick sort of pleasure now, seeing that she can still affect others in a place that doesn’t acknowledge her existence.

“Dude, your dad is gonna kill me.” Lex didn’t look up from the garage floor, eyes trained on the purple paint stain. Ethan walked back to her side and leaned her forearm on top of her head. Lex looked up at her through her eyelashes, at her rounded face leaning down to inspect the stain with her.
“Nah,” She shrugged, standing up fully, arm still leaning on the crown of Lex’s head “He’s gonna kill me, I’m the one that spilled it, you were trying to be responsible and told me that trying to pin you against a shitty shelf for a make out session will make the paint cans knock over.”
