Tears blurred their vision. They couldn’t feel her, couldn’t see her. Where was she? Their frantic mind was still nightmare-muddled to the point of irrationality, immediately coming up with the worst, most horrifying possibilities of what could have happened to her.
They immediately scrambled to push themself up, calling out “Noelle?” in a voice that came out as barely anything but a shaken rasp. They were fully convinced they would never see her again–that she was either taken during the night. Or worse, that she was never there in the first place.
…Thats when the door opened, warm light from the hallway flooding into the room. Kris’s teary gaze snapped up to Noelle. Their girlfriend was just staring back at them, cup in hand, large sweater draped over her tall body…looking entirely unharmed. “Kris?”

Before the SOUL was banished, it enlightened Kris to the knowledge of all its other saves. In the post-prophecy world, two years later, what they saw still continues to haunt their sleep. Even with the comfort of their girlfriend.

Summary
Four years have passed since that long summer, where Kris and their friends managed to avoid the end of the world as they knew it, with the putrescent bulb overhead snapping them back to life. Both they and Noelle made a promise, to never grow apart, and stay forever as friends again.
Four years later, there they were⸺now studying in a city of glimmer lights, like the one they always thought they'd go to, with Kris majoring in musical arts, and Noelle eyeing to become a doctor. As adolescence leaves them, and they enter into this life as adults, the ever-present longing of wanting to be together still remains for the two of them, but never being able to say it.
The two are friends, and yet they've always been more their whole life, so a question had to be asked...
Was getting love involved really such a good idea?

Just get up and say something. Kris thought. But what would they say? Susie was on a date right now. Why would they ruin her happiness? I can be a bit selfish, right? Kris looked up again at Susie, the sunset illuminating her features. Her hair shiny in the evening light, her golden eyes brighter as the water shined behind her. But in her arms… was Noelle. Not Kris.
It’s not your place. Kris thought glumly. They pressed their face into the table as the new couple continued to giggle and laugh.

When Susie and Noelle become official, Kris closes themselves off to Susie. They just can't control how jealous they are that their crush is with their childhood friend. After Kris and Susie have an argument, Kris unexpectedly leaves for college. Noelle and Susie plan to join Kris in one year. During that time, Kris works on themselves and finds a new home in the city. But when Kris's time is up and Susie and Noelle arrive in the city, Kris isn't so sure they've moved on from Susie completely.
