His hair was mussed, and Levi wanted to run his fingers through it, comb it into a semblance of order like he often did at night, when that head rested on his chest. “Not much to look at.” He paused for a solid few heartbeats, watching Levi take up the roll of bandages and start wrapping the stump with care. “I see your shadow under the door every time you stand there. You’re hesitating longer now than you did three days ago, did you know that?”

“What, what’s wrong-” Isabel slammed into him and tucked herself securely underneath his arm, where she fit perfectly. “Sweetheart, I was gone for forty-five minutes.”
“Yeah, yeah, but dad dropped some lore while you were out! You guys met because you blackmailed him and then he tried to kill you?”
“Twice,” Levi supplied helpfully, unmoved by the bewildered look his ambushed husband shot him.
