Summary
Dr Lan is a very well respected Intensive Care Registrar at the busy Caiyi General Hospital. A dark fog surrounded a soul, tearing at it in an attempt to break it. The soul did not attempt to fight against the force of the fog. It accepted this action as if it were its punishment. The soul was damaged, and it pulsated very slowly. The soul was weak and did not want to continue existing. The soul, when alive, sacrificed themselves, destroying their body. This soul lost everything it tried to protect and, in the end, died themselves, thinking that Noone loved them, no one cared for them, and that everyone hates them. It kept repeating the same words over and over again in the hope that the fog would answer it. In the hope that it would listen to the souls' cries.

He wanted to cry so badly. He wanted to jump into the other man’s arms and weep, but that was impossible now. There was only one thing he had left, and he was about to lose it.
“Do you still love me, Lan Zhan?”
“…”
Silence was his answer.
Or: Wei Wuxian knows that Lan Wangji has fallen out of love but he just can’t bring himself to accept it. Not until Lan Wangji asks him to leave, that is.

This was inspired by @bigmamag on tumblr, who said:
"I just hurt myself thinking of the fact that pictures don’t exist in The Untamed and the only images Lan Wangji has of him is those shitty evil yiling patriarch caricatures that he just straight up burns whenever he sees out of anger. But what if on a night hunt like year 10 after Wei Wuxian’s death, Lan Wangji saves a very nice family’s daughter from a monster and they mention someone else helping their village and visiting a long time ago and the daughter shows him the accurate depiction of Wei Ying she drew back then of the nice cultivator who made her laugh through her injuries and Lan Wangji is frozen as Wei Ying smiles at him again, and he stares so longingly at it that the daughter insists that he keeps it and Lan Zhan does right next to the picture Wei Ying drew of him."

And then, "Lan Zhan"

Wei Wuxian had smiled, bursting with delight, "Lan Zhan! Your name is wonderful just like you. I can't believe you let me call you a sea monster for so long".
Or: a story of Mermaid Lan Wangji and Human Wei Wuxian. How they meet and how they separate, only to find their way back to eachother.
