Summary
Patty couldn't bare to see it, but she could feel it clearly.
It was like a volcano, or an uncontrollable wildfire. Demonic energy was scorching everything, turning lesser demons' corpses into stains on the ground. The only reason she was even spared was because of the Behemoth corpse on top of her, and she could smell it cooking and burning away. The devil erupting out this energy was still roaring, and it hurt her eardrums to listen to. How the other demons had pissed it off this bad, Patty didn't know.
All that she did know, was that as soon as it was done with the demons, it would be coming for her.

Dante choked, a little. “Holy shit,” he said out loud, and hugged Vergil back, a little awkwardly. “You really missed me, huh?”
“You’re my twin brother,” said Vergil, softly. “Is it really so strange I’d hug you?”
Was it? Vergil wasn’t a huggy guy. He tended to avoid being touched, which was fine, Dante knew how to respect people’s boundaries, but—was it really so strange that his own twin could stand to hold him? Why was he so surprised? Vergil had done this before. Right?

“Guess not,” Dante said, warmly, patting his twin brother on the back of the head.

After decades of conflict, Vash can finally settle down and enjoy a quiet life with his companions. Having the "legendary gunman" always within reach is a refreshing change of pace for Meryl, who now spends her time chasing insurance contracts rather than humanoid typhoons. But even peace time is not without challenges. Vash's lifetime of running from gunfight to gunfight has left scars deeper than either he or Meryl are prepared to confront. When those scars manifest as unimaginable night terrors, Meryl's own trauma resurfaces as a result. The two of them are faced with the stark realization that living a domestic life side by side isn't going to be a simple or easy affair.
Vash is used to running away, and Meryl is used to letting him go. Now with the prospect of them causing each other mutual harm, they'll have to learn to communicate if they want to work through decades of emotional baggage. Can Meryl overcome both hers and Vash's scars to reach out a hand in healing? And can Vash accept that there really is someone who wants to stay with him despite the pain?

Being around Vash felt like that. Like she was following an ever-ticking bomb, waiting for it to blow up in her face. And yet, she couldn’t bring herself to look away, to go back to the safety of her office. Meryl has spent most of her life being told what would be best for her, what would be safest. First by her family, urging her to go into insurance, then her coworkers telling her to stay in November and report locally where nothing truly dangerous ever happened. And now that she was finally out in the field her partner tried to discourage her from anything that had the potential to land them in trouble.
But following Vash the Stampede was the closest she’s ever gotten to feeling like she did something that actually mattered. It was dangerous and terrifying. Meryl never wanted to do anything else.
