He was walking along the jungle path for about an hour before he realized he had seen that rock before. Actually, multiple times. Or was that just a similar-looking rock? After a quick assessment of his surroundings, Sawyer concluded that he’d been walking in circles for at least twenty minutes.
“Took you a while to figure that one out.”
Sawyer spun around, pointing the gun at who he realized just a bit too late was Jack. Sawyer huffed in frustration and lowered the gun. “Were you following me?”
“Well, yeah. Mostly to make sure you didn’t get lost. Which, in a sense, you didn’t,” Jack said, taking a step closer to Sawyer, who was scowling quite deeply.
“You got that right. I ain’t lost, I know exactly where I am.”
“And where are we?”
“…On the Island.”

“You’ve been wearing sunscreen?” He asked, eliciting a small laugh from Kate.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’ve been wearing sunscreen,” She replied. Jack nodded his head.
“Good,” Jack muttered.
“Any updates with Dave?” Kate asked.
”Well, he woke up and told me his name was Sawyer,” Jack replied. Kate raised her eyebrows, surprised.
“He woke up?”
“Yeah. Kept trying to sit up. I got him to go back to sleep, though.”
“What does he sound like?” Kate asked. Jack thought that was a weird thing to ask.
“Like he was from Texas,” Jack responded. Sawyer had that real thick southern drawl. Not the annoying kind, though- the one that was enjoyable to listen to.

“Sawyer, I-“
“Oh, fuck off, doc. I don’t wanna talk to you. Or hear you yap to me,” Sawyer snarled, glaring up at Jack again, who looked taken aback. He had no right to be. Jack was the one who ran off, Sawyer had every right to be an absolute dick to him.
Jack was quiet for a second, seemingly weighing his options before he spoke, to the ever-growing anger of Sawyer.
“I don’t want to talk. Just let me bandage your hands.” Without waiting for a response, Jack crouched down next to Sawyer, grabbing his left hand. Sawyer pulled away immediately, scooting a little way’s away from the ever-confused Jack.

Jack was silent for a moment and then sighed. “Okay.”

Sawyer stayed up in Jack’s space for a few more seconds before walking away, brushing his shoulder against Jack’s as he walked. He felt Jack’s eyes on him but didn’t turn around.

“Makin’ sure you don’t kill yourself, doc!” Sawyer said in a mock-cheerful tone. Jack glared at him and huffed through his nose, looking forward as he walked a bit faster. Sawyer quickly caught up, walking shoulder-to-shoulder with Jack. “C’mon. Just let me come with ya. That’s all I’m askin’ for here.”
Jack seemed to ponder it for a minute or two, but finally sighed in acceptance. “Fine,” Jack muttered, keeping his gaze forward.

Sawyer clenched his hand around whatever Jack put in it. ”What, you tryna drug me now?“
Jack rolled his eyes. “No. It’s a Xanax. You need to relax.”
Sawyer muttered under his breath a few random insults, but popped the tablet into his mouth, letting it dissolve on top of his tongue.
“Thanks, I guess,” Sawyer muttered. “Although I still don’t think I ‘need to relax’. And aren’t you supposed to be rationing those pills?” He asked.

After Jack shot his shot, he turned back to Sawyer. “You’re up.”
Sawyer groaned inwardly, but stepped up. Jack handed him his golf club, and Sawyer held it in both hands up to his chest, trying to act like he was examining it.
Jack laughed softly, and looked at Sawyer. “You…don’t know how to play, do you?”
Sawyer glared at Jack, trying to hold the club like he saw Jack hold it earlier. “I know how to play damn golf, Jack. Who doesn’t?”
“You, it looks like, because you’re holding the club backwards and your hands are in the wrong spot,” Jack stated, clearly seeing through Sawyer’s bluff.
Sawyer sighed, relenting. There was no point in pretending anymore. “Alright, fine. I don’t know how to play golf, okay?” He scowled at Jack.

A few seconds later, Sawyer grew the balls to look at Jack, who was…smiling at him? Sawyer sneered at Jack. “What, you gonna make fun of me or being in pain or something?”
Jack chuckled softly, looking forward. “No. I appreciate you telling me, is all. Not many guys are willing to admit something like that.”
That made Sawyer feel happy inside, although he (again) would never admit it. He liked being the center of praise, even if what Jack said wasn’t necessarily praise. He smiled a crooked smile at Jack.
“Well, you’re welcome, doc. Just say the word and I’ll spill all my emotions.”
