Summary
Color flooded into Buck’s world between one jump and the next in the middle of the tight, pressing crowd of a concert when he was twenty and making a pit stop from running somewhere - anywhere - away from where he’d been.
He wished like hell, afterwards, that it had happened anywhere else at any other time.
OR, Buck meets his soulmate, misses them, and tries to deal with that.

Summary
Chimney’s face does something complicated. “You’re… roommates,” he repeats.
Buck nods enthusiastically. “Yep. Roommates.”
Hen doesn’t blink. “You’re holding hands because you’re roommates.”
Ravi slowly stands up, still clutching his toast. “I have had roommates,” he says carefully, “and I have never held their hand.”
Eddie’s eyes narrow. “That’s sad for you.”
Or Eddie just wants to hold Buck's hand and everyone is being weird about it

They’re not quite lovers, so Buck tells everyone they’re just friends. It’s easier that way — until a call, a beam, and a sunrise make it impossible to keep pretending.

"Though—and I know you probably don't want to talk about it, but since you and Natalia are over with now, I've been wondering…" Maddie pauses, watches Buck make a face like he's bracing to be smacked. "What happened with Eddie?"
Buck stops wincing and just blinks at her for a second. Then he says, "What?"
"You two were dancing around it for so long, and then… what, it just didn't work out? Was the date really that bad?"
She's expecting another wince, or even for him to duck out of the conversation entirely, but instead Buck is staring at her like she's grown a second head. "Maddie. I've never been on a date with Eddie."

Or: the poker game was a date. It takes Buck a while to catch on, though.

Summary
“Who’s this?” asks the stranger. The audacity. Eddie should be the one asking that.
“Oh, uh,” Buck swallows. “This is Eddie, and Chris,”
“This is Eddie…” the stranger doesn’t sound pleased.
“And Chris,” Eddie adds. “And you are?”
“Edward,” Buck says. “My, my date.”
Eddie’s stomach sinks.
“I told you this shouldn’t have been a surprise.” Chris says, slightly embarrassed.
No. Absolutely not. Eddie hasn’t gone through a gut wrenching month of trying to figure out his life—his sexuality—only for the love of his life to be on a date as soon as things start to get better. He’s moved across states twice in the same goddamn month just to keep the two halves of his heart close, for god’s sake. He might not financially recover from this, but he refuses to take an emotional hit at the same level. Besides, what kind of name is Edward?

Buck glanced up from the book he was reading on plate tectonics at the sound of a small scuffle, seeing Eddie being shoved into the room by Chim.
“Hey guys, everything alright?” he asked, lowering his book in his lap.
“Are you from Tennessee?” Eddie asked, his voice strained, “cause– no, this is so stupid–” Eddie turned away abruptly, and Buck watched in confusion as the man sped away from him, the tips of his ears flaming red. That was strange, but Eddie was just weird sometimes.

"The pocket-sized knife didn’t feel as laughably small when it was resting against Buck’s throat. Especially not when its wielder was unsteady on his feet, blade trailing over Buck’s pulse point every time the guy swayed.
“Buck.”
Buck’s eyes followed the broken sound, finding Eddie standing just inside the station, bag still slung over his shoulder, looking so terrified it made Buck’s head spin, panic sparking brighter as the knife dug in a little more."

Summary
"I'm Buck."
"Buck," Eddie tests the name out. Buck. He likes that name. It sounds good, warm and safe and comfortingly familiar on his tongue. "You're my husband."
Buck's eyes widen, obviously surprised that Eddie remembered that. See, look? He's recovering remarkably quickly. He'll have his full memory back in no time.
"Your husband," Buck repeats and Chris, for some reason, starts giggling.
"My husband," Eddie agrees happily.

Summary
“You know, you could always kiss me.”
And Buck was wrong before. He felt fine then compared to the immediate sickness that now settles in his stomach. He feels his cheeks heating up and then prays he will pass out.
Idiot, fucking idiot. Why? Why would he even say that?
He doesn’t look at Eddie, even when he feels the latter's eyes burning into the side of his face. He doesn’t move his foot, doesn’t do anything. He mildly wonders if he’s still enough, maybe Eddie would forget he was there completely.
He thinks he may have heard Eddie choke on air, but then again, Buck is now actively trying not to think. About anything at all.
He cannot believe he just offered himself to his no longer straight best friend. What an idiot.
“Um. What?”
*
Or, Buck offers to kiss Eddie after he comes out. Eddie says no, and Buck spirals.

“Are we going to talk about it, then?” Hen says, her voice amused.
Eddie turns the page of his book. “Talk about what?” he asks, his words a deliberate sort of quiet, as if he’s worried about waking Buck up. And God, if that doesn’t make the ache around Buck’s heart pulse.
“The 6’5 giant using your lap as a pillow?”
Okay, great. Now Buck is not only taking advantage of his best friend, but he’s doing it while eavesdropping on a conversation about him that they all think he’s too asleep to hear.

Summary
So in the middle of Eddie’s dining room, with his brain to mouth filter non-existent (as per usual), Buck blurts out, “Marry me.”
Eddie sits straight up, looking at him with eyes wide as saucers.
“Excuse me?”
“W-well, just think about it. If we get married I can add you and Chris to my insurance policy and that solves your problem.”
Eddie’s mouth forms a perfect little ‘o’. Buck waits patiently for the floor to open up and swallow him whole.
When the ground doesn’t do as he’d hoped he realizes he has to say something else. “Obviously, w-we don’t have to,” he’s quick to assure. “But if we did it would be platonic, of course, because you’re straight and–” he pauses, praying for another rogue stroke of lightning. Anything to put him out of his misery right now. “-and like I know that I’m bi now, but this wouldn’t be like that y’know? It would just be two friends helping each other out.” He’s rambling, the words won’t stop tumbling out. “Like a friends with benefits type situation! E-except you know not those kinds of benefits! Like actual benefits! Health and dental.”
or,
Eddie is moving to Texas, losing his insurance, and marrying Buck all very heterosexually and platonically.

Summary
Eddie goes then, opening the front door with arms full of tiny waters. He bumps it open with his hip, turning back to call one more time to Chris.
“Move it bud! We’ve gotta go in three minutes if you want to— oof”
Eddie stumbles as he runs into something large in his doorway. Something warm. Something… Buck shaped.
“Woah, ok, ok I’ve got you,” the Buck shaped obstacle says, steadying him and his waters as Eddie just… stares at him. Frozen. He's pretty sure he's hallucinating Buck being in Texas again.
