    When Stannis was gone, Renly couldn’t help but look up once more, towards the comet hanging in the sky. Bright red, and so far away. It had appeared last night and would surely vanish from the sky within the evening, having continuing its course through space away from the planet with no name where Renly had been reborn. The planet where, he knew, he would face dragons and monsters born from the cold.

    Renly turned away. The comet did not mean anything. He had more pressing matters to attend anyway. He was going North to meet the infamous Ned Stark. With any luck, maybe he would finally find the beginning of the Plot.

    Or maybe the Plot would find him.

    Bookmarker's Notes

    SI! Renly is intellegent, not overly bold or cautious, and has a sense of measure as well as a bottom line. (It isn't high, but it's present.) He also doesn't have much of a superiority complex and his narrative voice is pleasantly grounded.
    I really appreciate PoV characters like Renly, and I hope that the author will finish this work. (@Ywena I promise you that even if you later hate this work, I'll still love it. Please don't delete ever this🙏. )

    Wei Wuxian comes back, but not for him.
    And Jiang Cheng learns, slowly and painfully, how to live without the person he never stopped waiting for.

    In retrospect, Lan Xichen should have already known something was really wrong. Jiang Cheng’s letters to him of late had vaguely mentioned some troubles in the Yunmeng territory, some negative activity that could not be pinned down to a curse or easily-dispelled resentful energy. And then, the letters had stopped.

    Jiang Cheng did not write to him every day, Lan Xichen reasoned. It was not uncommon for them both to lose communication entirely for a week, even two or three, when things got particularly busy. It was part of the cost of living so far apart, and so Lan Xichen only sent his missives off as usual, and did not worry about the lack of reply.

    But then Jiang Cheng wrote to Wangji. No. To the Chief Cultivator.

    When disaster falls in Yunmeng, Lan Xichen starts to think about what he wants.
