Finishing the last paper for the day, he quickly tidied up his desk and grabbed his essentials before heading out. He was almost out of the building when a familiar voice calling his name stopped him. If it were any other person, Alhaitham probably would have ignored it, but the distinct voice belonged to the archon of Sumeru, Lord Kusanali, or the name she decided to go by, Nahida. The little archon had worry etched into her young face as she approached Alhaitham. It was weird, considering his conclusion about the reason he was returning home on time today instead of continuing to pour over the endless paperwork on the Grand Sage’s desk.
“Alhaitham,” she said once they were finally within speaking distance. “This is your last chance. Please make it, or I can’t help you anymore.”

“Which one should I use today?” Kaveh fucking purred and the pinging sound went off the wall. There was a soft, low chuckle from the omega and some shuffling, then a loud smack! that had Alhaitham throwing the door open.
He was feral, ready to fight whoever had dared lay a hand on Kaveh, but the omega was alone.kaveh has been paying his rent on time, alhaitham is suspicious.

Alhaitham doesn’t know why he can’t shut it out—he’s heard it all before, doesn’t care to indulge. But with Kaveh it’s like the penultimate chapter of a story, the hushed moment before the dramatic curtain opens and the final act is revealed. Simply put, Alhaitham needs more.
