He won’t remember this in the morning, but Oikawa’s voice is soft. Timid. “Iwa-chan?”
“Half-expected you to call me Iwaizumi,” he snorts. “Shittykawa.”
He hears some rustling on the other end. “How drunk are you right now?”
“I’m so not,” Iwaizumi slurs, his articulation an answer in itself. He’s too drunk to feel embarrassed for himself, or to even register that he probably shouldn’t be on the phone with Oikawa in the first place. But his mouth opens anyway. “Why don’t you want me anymore?”

Summary
Iwaizumi has never particularly enjoyed seeing Oikawa cry. Partially because he really is such an ugly crier, and the amount of snot and tears he can excrete in such a short time frame is as gross as it is impressive. Mainly because it always makes something in his gut clench unpleasantly, like his intestines are twisting themselves into a knot, and he always gets a little desperate to make Oikawa’s tears stop, if only so that knot will go away. Even before they started dating in college, Iwaizumi wanted to avoid those tears as much as possible.
But right now, he’s not thinking about how to stop Oikawa’s tears at all, and the knot that used to form in his stomach whenever he cried has shifted dramatically from unpleasant to the exact opposite.
(or, Iwaizumi hates to see Oikawa cry, except for when he really, really doesn't)

It’s kind of absurd, he thinks, that he’s doing this at all. He’s never read a single panel of the manga, barely knows any of the characters, and yet he’s taking Oikawa’s idea and expanding it into ten thousand and five hundred words.

Because of this he's not allowed to go out with Hanamaki, Matsukawa, and Iwaizumi on their self-titled "singles only" ramen night on February 15th. In his third year he tells his fan club to postpone gifts and walks into class expecting to find an empty desk and an invite to the singles only ramen night with his friends.

Oikawa figured he was a pretty normal man: he's a business owner, he gardens, he lusts over a secret crush. Despite his normalcy, things go awry after said crush shows up in his shop.
