“Adams… Is it true that you… cannot see?” Andrew asks, clutching his shovel to his chest with a vice grip.
The small smile stays on Helena’s lips. “Yes, it’s true. I lost my sight when I was but a child.”
Andrew exhales a small, shaking breath and loosens his grip on his shovel. He ought to feel bad, he thinks, but honestly, he feels only relief upon her confirmation; if she cannot see, she cannot know what he looks like. She cannot judge him for his sickly pale appearance.
She cannot tell that he’s a white-haired monster.

He strokes her cheekbone, the tip of his thumb grazing the edge of the soft cloth covering her eyes. It isn’t even too tight, just enough to stay firm around her head and keep this little act going, but it’s there, causing Emma to feel heaven knows what.
The sole fact that she wants to do this with him, that the trust she has for him is so large, is a little overwhelming.

You had arrived at Oletus Manor around three months ago, and had settled in the best you could for essentially being trapped in a death-game. At least some of the other survivors were pleasant and friendly. Some weren’t, but you did your best to focus on matches, and not worry too much about the less-than-savory individuals. It was best to keep a friendly disposition, but not be too open with others.

A bit farther away sitting at the end of the table, there is also a man in a prisoner’s outfit, topped with a metal chain around his neck. Edgar frowns as he takes the sight in; he supposes people from lower social standings were acceptable, but to invite even criminals amongst them?
As if hearing the painter’s thoughts, the man raises and turns his head to face Edgar as well– and would you look at that? His left eye is painted with violent colors and almost swollen shut, and there is a bandage even around his neck. The man is all battered and bruised.
How surprising, for a criminal.
