    "You take her." Shane waits for Rozanov to take Lucie, but when he doesn't do anything, Shane flicks his gaze up to see Rozanov's eyes widen. "What?"

    "You want me to feed her?"

    "Yes. You literally just held her. What's the difference?"

    "I-I don't know what to do."

    Shane passes Lucie over to him, then guides Rozanov's hand to the bottle to keep it up. "You just hold it like that."

    "Then what?"

     

    Or: Shane has a one night stand with a woman during the six months Ilya ghosted him, and he's left with a little girl. Lucie Hollander wraps them both around her little finger and changes the course of their love story.

    Alina was drawing an enormous purple dog.
    "Are there a lot of purple dogs around here?" Ilya asked.
    Alina didn't look up from the drawing.
    "No."
    "Do you like purple?"
    Once again, a one-word answer. "It's ok."
    "I see. So the dog is ok."
    "It's not a dog. It's a wolf."
    "A purple wolf? I've never seen one."
    The little girl flushed with irritation. "The brown one is dead."
    "Lucky me. Otherwise I never would have seen my new favorite animal. The purple wolf."
    Alina didn't answer.
    "What do purple wolves eat? Yellow sheep?" Ilya asked.
    The little girl looked up from the page and fixed Ilya with an intensity that made him uncomfortable. "Where is my brother?"

    Ilya Rozanov gets a call from Russia: his brother has been arrested, and Ilya is the legal guardian of two children: his six-year-old niece Alina, and a baby nephew, Ivan, he didn't know existed. Ilya never planned on being anyone's father. He has no idea he's about to become the kind he never had.

    The Bears converged upon David, knocking their helmets with his and tapping his mask and pads.

    “Fuck yeah, Papa-Rook, that was fucking incredible!” Marlow howled, grabbing and hauling him close by the shoulders. David laughed his gratitude, touching his helmet to the gruff defender’s. Behind Marlow, he could see Ilya shaking a blushing Ryan Price in celebration. He pushed his way through a sea of black and gold to join them, clapping the massive Nova Scotian on the shoulder.

    “Beautiful goal, kid.”

    So far as Yuna is concerned, the 2016-17 season is going entirely to plan: Shane is leading the Metros on a ten-game winning streak, Ilya is thriving under Hollander-parental guidance, and David is making waves as the oldest rookie in the history of the MHL.

    Of course, this wouldn’t be much of a story if nothing went wrong.

    Yuna slides a folder on the table closer, pulling out two packets of paper. She’d gone all out with the contracts. Mainly, Shane suspected, to ease his nerves about the lines of the relationship. Plus, she was always nothing if not prepared.

    She hands one contract to Shane, then another to Rozanov. “As a reminder, this is not legally binding. If either of you wants out early, can’t meet obligations, or wants to change things down the line, that is perfectly fine, and we can work with that. This just lays out the exact timeline of the relationship,” she begins, “down to the start and end dates."

     
    - or, Shane and Ilya never start hooking up in 2010. So eight years later, after they both come out on their own, Yuna Hollander (momager of the century) decides that a PR relationship would be very beneficial for her son and his infamous rival. And everything definitely goes exactly according to plan... or something like that.
