Summary
Chuck's a nice guy, really. He USED to get into fights, and he USED to spend more time in the principal's office than his actual classroom. He liked to think he's changed.
That, of course, changes when a certain Stroke is on the wrong end of an insult.
Really, it's all Varsity's fault.

Summary
“And you?” Bev finally said, still not looking at Ace. “You mad 'cause I made your new friend upset?”
Ace fought the urge to roll her eyes. She knew Bev was just putting up a front. Ace knew she was hurting just as much as Ace was.
“No,” she said, her voice softer than she ever allowed it to be. “I’m angry you hurt my best friend. And me.”
Bev looked at Ace, finally. For a moment, they communicated so much with so little. The history Ace had with this girl was too much to pretend like it didn’t happen. As much as Bev tried to deny it, Ace knew her, probably better than anyone else. She knew the secret parts about Bev that she refused to show anyone.
OR
After Two-Bit is jumped, Ace confronts the girl who burned her best friend, also forcing them both to confront their past, what they meant to each other, and what that means for them now.

Summary
Darry regretted the words as soon as the words left his mouth. When Soda’s shoulders fell and he looked at Darry with eyes that didn’t recognize him, Darry wished he could take it back.
He never yelled at Soda. Pony’s anger also morphed into shock. He looked between both of them. Soda was staring at Darry with wide, scared eyes, and Darry recognized the tell-tale signs that he was about to cry.
OR
Darry says something he regrets, and is forced to confront a part of himself he doesn't like.

Summary
Sodapop Curtis was not smart, he knew this. He’d accepted this fact a long time ago. He’s always had his looks, attention from girls, the ability to make his brothers laugh, and other things society doesn’t seem to value all that much.
At some point, none of this seems to be enough. He gets attention he doesn’t always like, he is a dropout with no prospects, and sometimes he thinks, maybe his brothers are better off without him.
OR
Soda’s got pretty privilege, but as he gets older, things start to change.

Summary
Blond hair and blue eyes crossed his vision. A smile that could kill you followed with the laugh that made you think hey, she’s alright. She did laugh when she held it. It echoed in Two-Bits head, and his face burned.
He shut his eyes tightly and faced away from the mirror. He covered his face with his hands as he forced the image of her out of his mind. He dug the palms of his hand into his eyes until he saw stars. It didn’t work as well as he’d hoped.
“You alright?”
The voice distracted him enough so he saw another pair of blue eyes: Soda’s.
OR
The missing scene where Two-Bit isn't actually alright after the socs jump him. Where else would he go beside the Curtis house?

Summary
Sometimes Tim couldn't even tell if he was joking or not.
They’d each given him that quick-side-glance, casually-voiced ‘y’alright?’ thing, the kind they always did after a ‘good’ shooting, the kind that always made it easy for him to shrug off, move along. Nothing to see here. “I got blood on my nice shirt, you know how hard that is to get out?”
