“Ah, psychoanalysis,” Hannibal mused, “I feel as though the term was made with myself in mind. Taken from the words ‘psycho’ and ‘anal,’ the former being a perfect adjective for myself and the latter being one of my favorite activities, psychoanalysis often inspires discomfort in those who endure it. Summary
So when he comes to Karasuno, Tobio expects more of the same. He won't make the same mistakes again, but he doubts anyone on the team will like him—Tobio's grown used to his solitary existence, to the point where he can't imagine what it's like to have people around all the time, people who actually want to spend time with him outside of school or practice. He's resigned himself to being alone, because no one in his life has ever decided they want to get to know him or spend time with him or even like him as more than a casual acquaintance. Tobio's tried time and time again to change that and failed over and over—he doubts it's going to change anytime soon.
But when he sees that orange-haired shrimp staring at him from the gym doors, eyes wide and betrayed, he feels a vague sense of premonition.

This fic is generally really solid writing and character work, which are impressive by themselves, but really it earned its bookmark with the way the confession went down. These idiots, I swear.

“Ben, what are you doing?” asked Rey.
In answer, Ben just pointed to the window and said, “People.”
“Yes, Ben, those exist.”
“I know that, but they’re moving in. Who’s letting them move into the crazy neighborhood?”
“Ben, we’re the crazy house. No one else is crazy. Just you.”
“I’m not crazy, Rey. I was just kidnapped and brainwashed by an abusive militant cult leader. There’s a difference."Bookmarked by Riversound

*insert good shit meme here*
But yeah, it's a really well imagined and well executed look at kids recovering from a cult, and it's just so brilliantly characterized. I wish it was like twice the length.

Bookmarker's Notes
...Huh.
Let me begin by saying that the first seven chapters of this fic are truly spectacular. The first chapter I think will forever stay in my memory as one of the best atmospheric pieces of literature I have ever read, in large part because I never expected to take so much joy in reading about a dude tinkering in a plane engine. But I adore that sequence so freaking much, it's honestly kind of crazy.
And man, chapters 2-7 are beautiful pieces. Hux's past and behaviors are kept stubbornly under wraps, and a magnificent job is made of the gradual reveal. The whole time I was just so invested in him and in learning who he was, in the convoluted plot and his relationship with Ren, because the author proved time and time again that they knew what they were doing and we're constantly planning ahead, which made for great twists and great character reveals. Yes, I can safely say that the first seven chapters are some of the best fic I have read in my life.
So how did it tank so bad in the last chapter?
You know that stupid annoying meta thing where secretly the strings all along were pulled by some godlike entity, and the focus shifts with a jarring speed from one person's engaging personal problems to Oh no, the universe is ending!
Yeah. They pulled that shit.
I am still reeling a bit, lost in the sheer slap to the face that is the WHAT THE FUCK ending. It's not even an ending. The fic feels like it needs a sequel to have any sense of closure, but at the same time I hope to god there is never a sequel because then it might just end up as a full novel's worth of chapter eight. And no one wants that.
Ultimately I would still say to read this. The first 87.5% or so is still gorgeous and worth every instant of your attention. Just don't be too hopeful for the final chapter. It's not what you'll want to hear.

Summary
This is a fill for this prompt, found here.
"Sherlock learns that a spat of recent killings was done by a professional assassin. A man so feared that the criminal underworld is afraid to whisper his name. Sherlock goes off on his own to track him down, and is captured.
Sherlock braces himself for a cold-blooded killer, with nerves of steel and no remorse, with a reputation for ruthlessness that makes several hardened criminals check their closets before they go to bed - and meets John. Easygoing, good-natured, cuddly jumper-wearing John. Who thinks he's brilliant and hilarious, and can he take him out for a coffee?
Cue the weirdest courtship ever. Like, dates being crashed by Russian assassins, epic gunfights in the middle of London, Lestrade and the Yard going WTF, Mycroft questioning his brother's taste in men, etc."

'There was a long silence as Sherlock and Lestrade stared at each other "Fine. That was our third date. The roof-top in Boston was this chap's roof."
"For your third date you wandered into the depths of a Mafia and pulled a heist that resulted in the arrest of almost forty mafiosi including a criminal mastermind?"
"Mastermind? Ha. Can you believe the idiot mistook mist for phosgene? The criminal classes these days."'
It's cute and funny and very Sherlock. Worth everyone's time.

""The Spawn always respond to their names," says Win.
"Which are?" says Pike, with the look that means he doesn't really want to know. Win never understands why command-bitches do that to themselves. "George-clone and Mini-me," she says."
This... swears. So much. At the same time it somehow manages to have great humor and great heart, all in about a thousand words. Highly recommended.

They meet Jim in phases, and through him find each other. Once the layers begin to peel back, though, the future bridge crew of the Enterprise finds more than they ever could have dreamed. When the fight to keep him starts in earnest, the cadets and officers of Starfleet begin to learn that not all wars can be won.
Because long before he had friends, Jim had Family, and the Scaretta crime syndicate didn't survive to the 23rd century by letting go of its own.
Jim Kirk will always be a frustration to Spock--even when that's not his name.

Hm.
I really enjoyed this. The layering was nice and the thing with the salt shakers hit every one of my OMG KEWL buttons, and hell if I don't have a mountain sized weakness for Machiavellian stuff, which this fic provides.
The first chapter is fabulous. Like, I was actually blown away. And the next couple chapters with the trial were almost equal in their fabulousness. But after that when they reach the Startfleet stuff...
In terms of characterization this fic was, I think, written by a younger person. (Not that I'm one to talk there lol.) The people don't always feel quite like real people. Even the characters who I think were written pretty well as round characters had segments where they just seemed weird. Uhura and Sulu and co...? I don't know. I just had some issues with characters, Spock in particular when it comes to his and Jim's more romantic interactions later on. I much preferred their mind games in the start. But ah well.
Overall a decent read, if not one I'll probably ever reread in entirety.
ALSO bookmarking in part to visit later when I can draw better. The scene in the final chapter with Spock and the rest on the o'er side of the mirror begs to be illustrated.
