"Stop fretting, although I know that's your favourite pastime," Robert teased, and with his mouth suddenly going dry as the Sahara, Aaron noticed that Robert had slipped out of his jacket and was now rolling up his sleeves to reveal his tanned, blond-haired forearms. "Don't worry, I'll be the best boyfriend you ever had, sweetheart."

It would have been Robert’s 24th birthday that day – Aaron had worked that out almost immediately when he found out the date of Robert’s birthday, back when they were still having an affair. It had rattled him more than he had wanted to admit to himself, partly because back then he was still trying very hard to remind himself over and over again that Robert would never choose him, that the two of them could never work properly and that those particular dates coinciding meant nothing.
