Edgeworth had never picked up on the reason for Phoenix’s flimsy pretexts to talk to him, or for Phoenix’s goddamn career change—only ever chalking it up to Phoenix being Phoenix—which was probably for the best. Phoenix had come to terms with the fact that his feelings were extremely one-sided. He was more than used to keeping things under wraps.
A fancy German party had no chance in hell of changing that.

Something between indignance and longing crosses Miles’ face.
“Nothing I’ve felt for you has ever been casual.”
Well then.
“Oh. Okay,” Phoenix mumbles, trying not to melt into a puddle. It would be very hard to clean the carpet, after all.
“Are you telling me,” Miles says in a low voice, “that you thought I was flying you halfway across the world as a fuck-buddy?”Miles Edgeworth shows up in L.A. at the beginning of Trucy's spring break.

Which is a ridiculous thing to say before having sex with someone, but it makes Phoenix go to jelly, literally, like he could burst into strawberry-flavoured gelatinous goo and fall to the towel and bed sheets, half of him being absorbed to stain the fabric pink forever, half of him staying sat there, sticky and sweet.
“Sure,” he says, nearly a stutter. He wants to say, I love you so much, please do whatever the hell you want with me, I’m already planning the flower arrangements in my head—
In which Phoenix conveniently says none of those things, or even anything close to them, while he and Edgeworth have sex for the first time.

“I recall this tactic,” Miles hummed, his voice vibrating straight through his spine and into Phoenix’s lungs. “This one certainly wormed its way under the defenses’ skin, no?”
Phoenix snorted into a smile. “Yeah, it was pretty effective, but I can’t say I’m disappointed with the results.” He loosened his grip when Miles turned, putting them face to face, a mirror of the incident that allowed all of this to flourish in the first place. “Care to add a reenactment to our bargain?”

It wasn't a secret at this point, anyone with eyes could tell the change in his demeanor when he first started seeing this mystery person. Maybe it was a good thing no one knew the identity of this special someone he saw every Friday, after all, Phoenix had no idea who he really was as well. He couldn't physically describe this man, nor could he give his real name to anyone that asked, but Phoenix couldn't complain. This man was filling an Edgeworth-shaped hole in his heart.
