Summary
“You know what they say about watched pots.”
Lex lifts his head to meet Jonathan’s eyes. If he’d expected crisis to make Lex look older, Jonathan was mistaken. What must have been several hours of raw-edged panic has stripped him of the self-assurance that makes it easy to forget that Lex is twenty-two year old. He always scoffs when Martha points that out–usually after he’s lost his temper. After all, they hadn’t been much older than Lex when they’d gotten married, and they certainly hadn’t felt like kids then. But it strikes Jonathan very suddenly how little he’d known about the world, even about himself, at that age.
“I owe it to him,” Lex says as he straightens up."
Jonathan (grumpily) decides that Lex isn't spending the night in the hospital after the tornado.

Summary
“D’you–” Mickey chews on the inside of his cheek. “Do you want to go home?”
There’s a part of him, somehow, against all odds, that feels a pang of disappointment at the thought. Mickey has only had the one taste of what it’s like to run through the stars and he already understands what had so quickly intoxicated Rose. And it’s not just the travel. Being with the Doctor, even when you’re just the squeaky third wheel, feels a little like being the main character of the universe. Like your choices mattered, like you could change things. It’s not a feeling Mickey has had before, and it’s hardly one that he expects to have again."
After Girl in the Fireplace, Mickey reminds Rose that she belongs in the TARDIS.

Summary
"Father Brown steps into the police box—and into an entirely new world. His breath catches in his throat at the sight, so he stands in the entryway for a long moment, drinking it in.
“You’re really not going to say it, are you?” the Doctor asks. “Usually, people can’t help themselves. It’s bigger on the inside.”
Father Brown raises his eyebrows. “There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in my philosophy.”
A town in the Cotswolds has been stuck in 1953 for nearly a decade, and the Doctor, fresh from the Time War, intends to figure out why.

Summary
"There is a small—very small, mind you, because twenty years in the desert haven’t turned him into a krayt dragon—part of Obi-Wan Kenobi that thinks things would be a little bit easier if Beru Lars had burned with her husband. In his defense, she’s currently barrelling towards him with a blaster leveled between his eyes and murder in hers."
Or, the one where Aunt Beru was out running errands when the homestead burned, and everything changes, just a little bit.

Summary
Rex sighs. “What have you heard?”
He’s not going to be the one to tell her about Krell and the 212th and Waxer and Hardcase and—Rex shuts that thought down before it can sting more. Two years into this war, he’s pretty good at that.
“Technically,” Ahsoka says in a tone of voice that he’s more accustomed to hearing coming from her master, “I didn’t hear anything. Anakin won’t tell me what happened!”
After the Krell incident, Ahsoka checks in with Rex. Milkshakes are involved.

Summary
"Once he’s back in the kitchen, Dean sets about making cookie dough with far more intensity than any reasonable person should. Take that, Chuck. Name one manly man in the whole fucking canon that celebrates his free will with making cookies. If there’s any proof that he’s no longer being yanked around like a dog on a chain, like a puppet on a string, like any number of stupid metaphors that don’t even begin to cover how he feels right now, it’s there.
Right?"
With the final (?) battle over, what is Team Free Will supposed to do but mope? Three sad stories for three sad dudes.

Summary
“You think Chuck was controlling everything?”
Dean scoffs. “He told us, Cas. He was.”
Cas shakes his head. “He wasn’t controlling me when I watched you rake leaves.”
As far as Dean can remember, he’s never done that in his life. “What?”
Basically, no one is dealing with the whole free will thing well.

Summary
“How?”
The way Cas’s voice cracks on the word makes it clear that it isn’t a challenge, but a real question. How is he supposed to look at that thing, that abomination, and not see his child? How is he supposed to let a being of darkness make a mockery out of Jack’s light?
He doesn’t want to let it, but his lip trembles a little bit. Dean must notice, because his face softens just enough for Cas to see."
Or, the one where no one copes very well.

“What’s a rat race, Sam?”
Sam’s eyes grow a little distant, and Dean can’t tell if it’s the concussion or the thought itself. He’s not sure which is worse, because he thinks he knows where Sam is going with this one, and he has no idea how to answer.
“Our lives,” Sam says with a vague motion of his arm that quite nearly smacks Dean in the face as he leans over to check out Sam’s elbow again. “He was just timing us, the whole time. How fast can they save the world this go-around?”
Team Free Will talks...free will.

Summary
“He killed her.”
Cas doesn’t say that they’ve all done something horrible under the influence of a power that was not their own. Sam and the demon blood. Himself and the Purgatory souls. Dean and the Mark.
“I know.”
And to his surprise, the hard shell around Dean utterly shatters at the words. Dean’s breath hitches once, twice before he folds forward, burying his face in his palms. Cas hovers for a moment, unsure of if it’s better to stay or go."
After Mary's death, Cas stands up for himself, Sam finds a message from his mother, and Mary has a conversation with a Reaper.

Summary
“Is it true?”
Anael holds a diamond necklace up to her throat. They’re fake diamonds, Castiel can see, because the molecules aren’t lined up correctly. Cas sets down the stuffed squirrel he’s been examining—this is God they’re talking about, after all, so nothing is too weird—and picks up an old cuckoo clock.
“Is what true?”
He’s forgotten these last few years just how cryptic angels can be sometimes. They make Sam and Dean look like the straightest talkers in the world.
Anael’s grin is almost flirtatious. Or teasing, maybe. It’s strange. “Your thing with the older one.”
14x17 Coda. Sam and Dean talk about the fight with Nick, while Anael wheedles about Destiel.

Summary
Dean nods. “I guess I’ve been thinking lately about what happens when Sammy and I are gone.”
Cas’s heart clenches. He’s been thinking the same thing. All it took was one head injury on one hunt to remind him just how fragile the Winchesters are. They’re extraordinary humans, but humans nonetheless. Which makes them oh so easy to break.
“That won’t be for a long time,” Cas says.
Thinking about it reminds him of the time he’d gotten a fever when he was human. Everything around him feels fuzzy, and he doesn’t feel quite at home in his own skin.
“Maybe,” Dean says with a shrug."
Inspired by the news that s15 will be the last. Cas and Dean talk about endings.

Dean snorts, tips the bottle back for another swig.
“Why won’t you just let me go?”
Cas narrows his eyes. “I’m not having this conversation with you while you’re drunk.”
Dean waves his hand again, more messily this time. “Not drunk.”
Cas briefly considers asking him to walk in a straight line but decides that it’s probably not worth the argument.
“That’s not what we do anymore,” he answers instead.
Post 14x14, Cas and Dean talk about sacrifice, and Sam and Rowena about possession.
