    Summary

    basically: Vaas is an omega but hasn't presented in years (probably because his various drug use and let's be honest maybe also his mental state have messed with and repressed his heat cycle)
    that is until Jay causes havoc on Vaas's little island paradise

    for context, this is how ABO works in this universe:
    m and f basically refers to secondary sexual characteristics, while a/b/o is more along the lines of primary ones;
    BUT they don't automatically align when you compare m/abo and f/abo:
    sexes that can get pregnant- F/b, F/o, M/o
    sexes that can inseminate- M/a, M/b
    and the one that can do both- F/a
    as opposed to the regularity of an omega's heat, an alpha's rut occurs kinda sporadically?
    it has certain triggers (physical, like in DTDB i.e. the smell of an omega in heat; but also psychological ones) but it's pretty unpredictable.

    It’s the smell that hits him first. Unexpectedly so.

    It was one of the colder October days. There was frost on the windows of the Beamer this morning and the leaves crunched under his sneakers. It wasn’t supposed to smell like this on such a day.

    The worst part is, that he knows exactly where the scent is coming from. Or rather: Who’s producing it.

    Steve makes out Cinnamon. Peach. Fizzy drinks. The smell of the ocean. What’s already intoxicating when they’re standing too close in school is worse now, makes him high, makes him dizzy. There’s no doubt that this is Hargrove. And judging by the smell, the guy is in heat.

    Pretty boy, rich boy, former King of Hawkins High, Steve fucking Harrington was standing over him, with his perfect fucking hair and pretty fucking face, swinging a fucking baseball bat covered in goddam nails like he just hit a fucking grand slam homerun.

    Or

    What if Billy caught up to Max a little earlier in the night and gets dragged into this whole upside down thing sooner than expected.

    “I’m in heat.” Billy blurted and Steve froze. “I’m in heat.”

    “Oh shit.” The Alpha swallowed, then swallowed again. This was not a good situation. “Uh, Billy that sucks. But I don’t understand why you’re here."

    “Neil kicked me out.” Billy muttered. “He won’t let me work through it at the house, told me I had to get out and it’s not like I can sweat this out in my car.”

    Steve made a semi disbelieving noise and Billy screwed his eyes shut, breathing out a frustrated curse. “Max says you’re safe. And I really need a safe place for the next few days. Call it a favor to Max or I can pay you if you want, but I can’t go back to Neil’s house and I don’t have anywhere else to go.”

    The Alpha stayed silent, and Billy’s voice cracked with loneliness and desperation. "I don’t have anyone else I can ask."
