Summary
Edited to change Rating- Mature for themes and content-no smut.
Edward Teach became famous in the 1980s for his striking photography. He pushed past the bullshit of fame as a big “fuck you” to everyone who thought it better for queers to die en mass from AIDS than to fund an ounce of basic research and prevention. Since then, he's become a photography professor and trope of an artist who feels nothing and hates art.
Stede Bonnet moved to Baltimore to start a Community and Art Center, bring people together, and spread his love of photography. His favorite photographer is known as Blackbeard. What could happen when he meets a man named Ed who seems interested in learning more about his photography?
Alternating POV featuring hidden celebrity artist identity tropes, Stede Bonnet as the most confident and clueless cis white man we know, history of ACT UP, the grief of surviving a plague, and a lot of flamingo references.

Jim wakes up from a nightmare, and Zheng comforts them.
A hurt/comfort ficlet for Garlic Soup Week 2025 exploring the relationship between The Polycule’s badasses, and what it’s like for Jim to have a safe person to cry on. Very little actual crying, and low to medium angst.

Summary
At eighteen, Ed and Stede meet by chance while backpacking through Europe, and it’s like striking a match—an immediate sparking connection drawing them together. Every day they spend together feels like an adventure, wandering through the streets of Hamburg, getting lost in Fussen, and finding their feelings for each other might be more than just friendly. But when Ed suggests they split up for a bit—just a detour before meeting again in Venice—things fall apart. Ed's train breaks down, Stede waits in Venice until he decides he's been stood up, and the trip ends in separation and broken hearts.
25 years later, they’ve never forgotten about each other, but their lives have moved on. When a chance encounter brings them face-to-face, it’s like no time has passed, and all the old memories (and feelings) come rushing back. Only they're both in committed relationships...
As they wander through re-learning each other, sorting through their feelings, they’re faced with the question of whether it’s possible to pick up where they left off—or if too much time, and too many choices, have come between them. Can they move past the lost connections and missed opportunities, and rediscover what once set their souls on fire?- Language:
