Roy Mustang’s words were laced with a thoughtful hum, and Edward tried not to feel hurt by the misassumption. Many heard his title and assumed it came down to his automail arm and leg. Ed had just hoped the Colonel – after everything – would’ve been different; that Mustang would’ve looked past Edward’s ill-fitting uniform and cripplingly-heavy automail and only see him as a person.
‘‘But,’’ Mustang continued, pensive, ‘‘I think they spelled your title wrong. You’re not Fullmetal, you should be Fullmettle. As in, you are full of mettle.’’
Edward blinked, utterly baffled.
‘‘Mettle, kid. M-E-T-T-L-E.’’
Mustang spelled it out for him. Literally. A genuine smile tugged at the Colonel’s lips as he rumbled out a fleeting chuckle, affectionately sweeping a hand over the top of Edward's golden crown. The boy's throat constricted as an annoying warm blur suddenly invaded his vision. He had experienced more kind words and actions under this man’s brief command than he had experienced in a long, long time.
It was just a shame that it was only a temporary arrangement.

Verso is convinced that the expeditioners were growing weaker because they were gradually losing their dynamic. Verso hasn’t sensed another alpha strong enough to be a threat in decades. He has also never met a beta or an omega who could match his dynamic.
Enter: Expedition 33— with his headstrong soon-to-present alpha sister, a strong female alpha that makes Verso’s skin crawl, an intriguing beta who keeps trying to sleep with him, and Gustave, who says his dynamic must be broken because he’s never presented and is apparently immune to alpha commands.
Verso accompanies Expedition 33 and, against his better judgment, ends up saving Gustave, the only person Verso has met on his more than six decades on the Continent who can stand the strength of his dynamic and commands— a development which confuses them both and throws a wrench in Verso’s well-laid plans.

Summary
Maelle took over the Canvas, which Verso has several issues with. 1) He's still alive, 2) Maelle won't leave, 3) he has complicated feelings for a man he let die, 4) that man has been resurrected and fucking hates him, and 5) that man has been showing up at his house uninvited when he's fucked up. He really didn't think he'd be alive to face the consequences of his actions, but he is. The guilt has hardened into a pit which has taken up permanent residency in his chest. Unfortunately, he has no option but to keep going.

Summary
Verso fully intended for Gustave to die at Renoir’s hand. He'd been hoping and planning for this while stalking them across the Continent, crafting ideas on how to insert himself into the empty space left behind, using the man's death as kindling to instill a burning drive in Alicia to force their mother out of the Canvas at long last. This had been his single-minded goal from the beginning of Expedition 33's doomed journey. Everything hinged upon on this one moment, this small sacrifice in a long line of expedition martyrs.
But somehow, despite all of his meticulous planning, he didn't take into account the possibility that the man could be his Alpha.
