Nestled into the wall on one side of the room, surrounded by grates shaped like a cupped hand, a large and happy fire blazes brightly, casting orange and black patterns that give the impression of being within the bars of a cage.
Hannibal smiles to himself, considering the metaphor. He knows he is not the first occupant of this room – and, perhaps, if fate and circumstance are not kind to him, he won't be the last either. But he will certainly inhabit this place the longest.
Though the grate suggests otherwise, this is not a cage.

“Jack has used you quite mercilessly.” Will shovels the rest of the eggs in his mouth, draining the glass of juice that had come with them in one long pull. “The places he drove you to must be dark indeed.”
Hannibal takes the tray back as Will pushes it into his hands. When Will speaks, it’s so quiet that Hannibal has to strain to hear it. “The only thing Jack drove me to was you.”

"You're not going to get to sleep like that, you know," he hears, and peeks out from his arm fortress until he realizes that the stranger is addressing him. Will lifts his head enough to reveal his face, and stares. The man is a vampire, he decides. Or something. He looks too perfect to be in the same situation as Will. His tie is too straight, his shirt too unrumpled, his expression too calm. Inhuman. Definitely.
"I might," Will hears himself reply, and then yawn again. His eyes start to close again, and he forces them open, if only to gaze upon the thing sitting next to him. It's not often that one meets an immortal, blood-sucking humanoid. He'll take advantage of it while he can.
