Bobby is eleven and he thinks he knows what family is. When he goes down to the beach, he sees mothers and fathers and sons and daughters and that must be a family. If you’re boring. But Bobby doesn’t go to the beach with his mother and father. He doesn’t even really talk to them anymore. So no, that isn’t what family is for him. Bobby knows his family. Bobby knows that Luke sitting on the sofa strumming the acoustic guitar with reverence and awe and Reggie bounce, bounce, bouncing on his toes as he babbles about the latest Nancy Drew book he’s read and Alex tapping his fingers against the table as he listens and Cecelia bringing home pizza from work every other night is family. And it’s the best damn family the world has ever seen.
