“You mind a bit of music, Day?” He called, brushing his hands together as he turned his attention back to the boy; who took Exer by surprise because he kinda looked like he was about to fully climb into his closet.
“Nah! You’re good!” David yelled back with a thumb raised.
“Jeez, you’re not trying to get away from me over there are you?”
“No! It’s not my fault your closet’s a mess- Aha!” A navy blue sweater was grabbed from the closet-abyss and David held it up in triumph. “I saw you wear this one last week and I’ve wanted to stea- borrow! Borrow it, ever since.”

Summary
“Dad, what was that?” He blurted sharply.
His father’s hand twitched at his side and he peered over the table and toward the window facing the street. “I-I have no idea.”
Exer wordlessly let his gaze follow, his stomach already tightening itself into knots. There were more noises; the rumble of feet slapping against the ground, words of precaution being hurled between people and car doors slamming shut.
The curtains were drawn but they could just about make out vague movements. Silhouettes of what looked like a person moving very slowly, bent over at the waist and stiffly trudging forward.
They were grunting. Neck jolting as they eventually got closer to the side of the house and out of view from the window.

Summary
“Uh..hi Exer.”
“Yeah. Hi. One second.” Exer grumbled half-abstently, frowning at what might’ve been his 3rd rummage through his left pocket with no trace of his money.
He really needed a new wallet.
Though his frantic searching was cut short, as his brain finally caught up to him he realised that the cashier had just used his first name. Not only that, but they had spoken in a painfully familiar voice.
With wide eyes, Exer paused and stumbled to find any sensical words. “J-Jackson..? What- what are you doing here man?”

Summary
Despite these longings, at that moment, there was nowhere else Jackson wished to be than at home.
But, as always, life had a different plan and he was only one turn away from the exit when a sudden noise snapped him out of his sleepiness.
Jackson was abruptly stopped in his tracks by the sound of rapid hiccuping escaping the janitor's closet, the door ever so slightly ajar. The sound alone was enough to send alarm bells blaring through his mind, but the sight of muddy footprints only fed into his cautious intrigue.
A very tired and dread filled part of him wanted to keep walking, get through those doors and let today be just that. Today, a closed door, nothing else to think about. But the sniffles that followed were too small and muffled to ignore, clearly carefully hidden by a concealing hand.

Summary
There wasn’t much that could really take Exer by surprise these days. When you have literal magic seeping through your bones, there is very little that can be considered out of the ordinary. Especially when you yourself are out of the ordinary, it turns even the strangest of instances into the norm.
But as he realised the back doors were still wide open, Exer heard something that he would never in a million years have suspected.
Singing.

All Exer wants for Christmas is to hear David sing again.

UNFINISHED ATM!!!!!
David is a 15 year old trans boy, who happens to live in a very unaccepting town. He makes the bold decision to pack up and leave everything he loved behind. His best friend, (who he might have a crush on) his sister, his mom and dad, school, everything.
He meets people along the way, some get him into trouble, and some take him in like a brother. He learns bass, joins a band, and falls in love a little. Sometimes he wishes to go back, but he knows he's so much happier, even if he's constantly on the run.
David has almost completely left the past behind, when one day, he sees a familiar face in the crowd. Will he ever be able to leave the past in the past, or will it continue to haunt him?

“You fell asleep,” David says, worrying at his bottom lip. “Were you bored?”
Exer doesn’t want to admit how comfortable he had been, surrounded by David’s scent and David’s warmth and the light pressure from the squeeze of his arm around Exer’s. So he doesn't say anything at all.
David interprets Exer’s silence quickly and drops his gaze to his lap, fidgeting with his fingers.
“Right, sorry. I know you don’t really like musicals.”
Exer stares at the boy in front of him and swallows his guilt.
Because in Mrs. Miller’s house — safe and full of love and far away from the asshole that is William Miller — he thinks maybe he could like musicals.
But that’s too confusing to explain, so he just nods.

Exer grows up loving music, and learning to let himself love David, too.

It’s a familiar ache.
It aches like when honey eyes meet blue ones, when a warm arm wraps around his shoulder like shelter in a storm, when David has to resist the urge to poke dimples from a bright smile, when a voice so deep and resolute turns soft and smooth when it’s used towards him.
And then he’s coughing again, and when it stops, there is an identical petal right next to the previous one.

Assuming that there were things that would never be the same again was something Exer could never get used to. Exer processed the information and could feel a pang of sadness, but even so, he could never deny that the feeling of betrayal lingered in his chest.

The routine had always been something Exer clung to; It gave him a sense of security, something that would always be with him. However, one day he meets someone who will always be with him and provide him security, but David, this new person, is not exactly like Exer's routine.
