Summary
6B, 12B, and 18D all suffered a similar fate: Infected by an advanced Logic Virus at the Final War Between the Machines and Androids. Before all their mental faculties deteriorated, they committed group suicide through self-destruction. So when they found themselves unharmed in the ruins of a civilization within a strange circle, they were understandably confused.
With their Pods nowhere to be seen and surprisingly unharmed with their weapons, they just impaled themselves on, intact. They trudged through the grainy desert only to come across a human settlement, and, shocking them to their core, actual living Humans. They look exotic, with 18D’s hair and eyes and dark skin, but they are Humans. The three were taken in even though the Ishvalans, 6B learned, are high-strung and alert due to the current climate. It was then they learned the ugliness of humanity—It was 1905, 10,037 years before YoRHa created their models and humanity was wiped out. They’re in Ishval, a nation annexed out of Amestris, which, from what they could gather, is currently at war with every nation it borders, with Ishval none the exception.
18D, 6B, and 12B must learn how to become human or die trying.

But his family members are onto him. They know something's wrong, and that alone would normally be enough to get him to loop. But he can't do it a single blinding more time.
This is fine. He can keep a secret. And he might as well make this loop interesting, after all!
