Summary
Eating is fine, now that he gets to taste things. There are so many flavors that combine in so many different ways, and John keeps discovering new ones—ones he loves and ones he hates and ones he knows he can make better if given the chance. The problem isn’t the eating; it’s what comes after the eating.
Digestion.
Eugh.
.
Or, John gets his own human body post-canon and experiences the trials and tribulations of having to feed that body.

John gets his human body and Arthur easily made peace with the idea of never seeing again. It's just that that's not the only thing he never got back.

Absolutely phenomenal fic of Arthur never getting back feeling in his limbs, nor sight. I love how much of a support system he has. 💛

Summary
It's the nebulous future, after all the gods and their blasphemies have blown over, and somehow, John and Arthur have gotten away with their lives relatively intact. They rent a small apartment in downtown Arkham, confident they will not be recognized by anyone important enough--or powerful enough--to ruin what they have scraped together. All told, it could definitely be worse.

Summary
Parker raised his eyebrows slightly and shrugged. “Maybe I want to become friends.”
Arthur actually let out a laugh at that; not because it was funny, but because this man clearly did not know who he was. What kind of person he was. What kind of things he’d done.
“No, you don’t,” he simply said and turned to the bartender, tapping the glass on the bar twice. Parker laid his hand flat next to the glass, as if to stop him.
“Wait. Let me get this round.”
Arthur frowned at the man again. What was this nuisance for?
“Why.”
“Because…” He hesitated for a moment. “Because you look like you’ve hit bedrock, friend.”
Arthur blinked at him, confused, as the bartender approached them with a bottle of whiskey. Parker raised a finger for him to wait.
“What?” Arthur asked.
“Have you ever had a blood and sand?” He asked. Arthur grimaced, unable to follow this train of thought.
“What is that,” he mumbled.
“It’s a cocktail!” Parker smiled brightly. “Blood orange, cherry, scotch – should be right up your alley.” -

Summary
“Stop looking at me like that.”
“Like what?” he exclaims, a frustrated scoff behind his words. “I’m not even looking at you. I can’t.”
“Like you know exactly what I’m thinking,” John presses, willing himself not to wither beneath that sightless gaze. Like a parent, he thinks to himself, who’s just caught someone doing something they shouldn’t.
“Maybe I do.” Arthur comes to stand beside him, bumping up against the edge of the couch. “Maybe I’m just trying to help, you donkey. What is going on with you?”
John acquires a small injury, and doesn't know how to ask for help.

Summary
Kayne heaves a dramatic sigh, stepping over to where Arthur stood. As he places a too large hand on Arthur’s shoulder, he peers over at John, delight evident at his scowling frustration.
“I’ll lay it out for you,” he says, shifting to caress one blossoming bruise on the side of Arthur’s jawline. John grits his teeth at the sight. “If you can find your way back to your own reality with him in tow, I’ll graciously allow you to leave; but you have to do so without looking back at him.”

Summary
"His arms still felt tense without the connection to Arthur. Anxiety – was that what that was? – was brewing in his gut at the distance between them, despite it only being two feet at most. At least in Arthur’s eyes he had a better position to warn him should something approach; now there were too many distractions, and the angle was off. He had an almost overpowering urge to grab onto Arthur again, hold him tight against his body and never let him go ever again. That way they could be close again, close enough to protect against any threats, close enough to feel… whole."

John and Arthur finally separate and temporarily stay in New York to get used to this new arrangement. It doesn't go as well as they might have hoped.

Summary
“Their bodies are long and thin, almost cylindrical,” John says, squinting upwards while they amble forward. “Topped with halos quivering in a gentle golden light. Some of them blink on and off with no discernable pattern, and-”
“John,” Arthur interrupts, fighting back a chuckle so desperate to get out that his throat burns with the effort. “Those are probably the street lamps, darling.”
John gets drunk for the first time - it shouldn't be as entertaining as it is.

Summary
“People make… mistakes,” Noel says. Arthur opens his mouth to argue, but Noel shushes him. “Don’t. Just listen to me. They told me that often after I got out of the war, told a lot of us it, over and over until it started to make me sick. Didn’t believe ‘em, of course. I’m not sure if I still do.”
Losing himself in memory, Arthur needs a little help from Noel and John to understand he deserved to be happy.
