“That’s what all the creepy reflections say.”
The man chuckled. “Fair. But if I wanted to hurt you, would I really be making small talk?”
Lin Ling hesitated. Then: “…You’re not me.”
“No. But I’m not a stranger either.”
That gave him pause. He swallowed. “So… what are you?”
A brief silence. The reflection looked at him like he already knew the answer. Then, after a moment:
“You can call me Nice.”
Lin Ling blinked. “Nice?”
Nice nodded, smiling — soft, almost fond. “Sure. It’s what I’m trying to be.”

Lin Ling’s mouth opened, then shut again. He tried to speak — What mountain? What sea? Who are you? — but his throat wouldn’t work.
The man stepped closer. Snow crackled beneath his feet but didn’t melt. His presence pulled the room into stillness.
He studied Lin Ling, gaze slow and unblinking.
“You sang,” he said, voice soft like snow falling. “And I answered.”
A pause. Then, simply:
“Now tell me… what is your wish?”

Wind roaring so strong it almost cut his skin quickly flashed into his mind and Dan Heng, with his glowing horns and tail swishing from one side to another as he aimed his spear to his enemies.
“Do I have a say in all of this?”
“Nope.”
