There was always something missing. Yuji didn’t have a name for it when he was too small but now that he was older, he understood. He suffered an absence that could not be filled. This fact was not in the journals. It wasn’t just a lack of friends. He’d known loneliness all his life because of his blessed status.
No, it was something in his soul’s memory that moved his body to reach out for a hand that was not there. Sometimes he would wake up and turn in bed and expect someone else and he would be alone.
Yuji’s soul was a fragment in the way the oceans were simply a fragment of all the waters of the earth. Sometimes, he missed being part of the lakes and the rain and the rivers too.
Alternatively: Born with a Heavenly Restriction that is considered a blessing, Ryomen Yuji is but half of a whole waiting to be complete.

Ryoumen Sukuna is not defeated by being split into fingers. Rather, the King of Curses is jailed to the Prison Realm, left to spend eternity alone in a cube.
Except. The elders seemed to have been as awful 1000 years ago as they are in the modern day, because no one mentioned he'd piggybacked on the body of some other random suicidal teenage human.
Well, at least the curses who tried to release him onto humanity are surprised too.--
aka yuuji is sukuna's brother, and takes him to the prison realm for some family bonding, and they're released when Satoru & gang are students.
Random plot idea that could've been a full story but I never finish anything so this is just like a really long thought experiment.

Yuuji and Sukuna had a close-knit relationship bordering on dependency. Though it always confused Wasuke to no end. The two twins, though identical in appearance were complete and utter opposites. One was sweet but passive. The other was headstrong but confident.
Still, Wasuke surmised, it was better they were together rather than apart.
