    Seven months. It's been seven months since Splinter made Leonardo the new leader. It's been seven months of progressively worse arguing and now it's constant. Michelangelo's effectively moved in with Baron Draxum three weeks ago at Donnie's insistence and Splinter is always somewhere the conflict isn’t.

    Donatello spends most of his time in his lab, leaving at night for some fresh air and to deal with old enemies. Someone has to, after all, and with two specific turtles refusing to leave the lair, it might as well be him.

    However, one specific enemy might be growing into something more than he can handle on his own.

    It’s on one of his escapes from the lair, however, that starts a whole strange chain of events. A chain of events where he finds himself very much unwillingly and begrudgingly not on his own, anymore. All thanks to a tripped motion sensor and Hypno-Potamus and Warren Stone.

    Donatello's never helping anyone out of the sewer again.

    Donatello's work never stops, and while designing and building house hold items may not be his dream inventions, its what his clients ask for. In order to deliver, he looks for inspiration in the showroom of the Nakamura Tech Company building. After hours, of course.

    But upon breaking in there he gets caught by none other than Jason from the Purple Dragons. Donatello's caught off guard, and even more so when Jase states that he not only works in the building, but he left the Purple Dragons a while ago.

    With some of the animosity removed between them, Donnie thinks their late night conversation goes pretty well, and does the crazy thing by asking Jase to hang out with him again.

    Jase also does the crazy thing and agrees.

    AKA How Donnie and Jase not only quit being enemies but became way more than friends.

    Everyone else is strong.

    Raph has super-strength, Mikey is slippery and fast, and Leo, surprisingly, is pretty good with his portals.

    Donnie doesn't have that.

    What he does have is a shell that can't be used and some tech that keeps failing. In fact, even when he really tries, he can barely catch up to his brothers. Sometimes he even slows them down.

    He doesn't want to do that again.

    And this wound isn't that bad. He can cover it up, act normal, and it'll all be okay...

    ... Right?

    "Don't blame Leo for trying," Raph piped up, a bit tense, and Donnie immediately bit down on his lip to stop himself from shouting in frustration. "We kinda can't ignore it, buddy. You're always doing… y'know."

    Donnie glared daggers at him. Raph flapped his hand around in lieu of an explanation.

    "How articulate of you," he ground out, trying not to sound too offended.

    "Y'know," Raph repeated, intelligent as ever. "Your thing."

    "Your ninpo," Mikey interjected. "You do that thing. I think Barry called it projecting? With your feelings."

    Donnie's heart sank into his stomach.

    "I what?"

    (or: despite his insistence, donnie doesn't actually function like a machine. he finds a way to try and change that.)
