    Summary

Vash could feel the eyes on him from behind, could feel them examining every move he made. If he even stumbled once, they'd be on him before he could even blink. He hated it, the knowledge that other people could be worried for him, despite all the wrongs he's committed– how much destruction is caused by his mere presence.

Vash's body was shutting down, he could feel it.

    He didn't deserve the luxury.

    OR

Vash tries to hide things from the people that care about him, and ultimately fails.

    Summary

Wolfwood was supposed to be an executioner, not a caretaker. Not someone who could grow attachments. His wounds would heal all the same, mental or physical, with one sip of the potion. He wasn’t allowed to care about anything or anyone, not anymore. Not after his hands were caked in red from the lives he’d stolen from so many others who were able to care. Who maybe had cared a bit too much.

Nicholas shook his head to push out the train of thought. Now wasn’t the time for brooding. He had a job to do.

He hefted the cross with a huff, staring at the empty building in front of him, and wondering where the hell he was going to go next.

Or, Vash pays the price for trusting in the friendliness of a rural town. Wolfwood and the others do what they can.

    Summary

“Satoru?” The word rings, fuzzy in his ears as it whines like tinnitus, familiar and heart stopping.

‘I’m dead.’ He can’t even hear his own thoughts over the loudness of the world, staggering where he stands, eyes still fixated on the sky, on the sun. ‘I’m dead, I died, I felt my heart stop, this can’t be, it can’t-’

“Hey,” it comes again, a little more urgent than before, a little closer, another hammer to his ears and all the noise shrieking behind his eyes. He recoils hard enough to go stumbling as a hand reaches for him, covered in flesh rather than empty bone, tan and recognizable. Unbelievable.

There’s something wet trickling from his nose. Bile stings on the back of his tongue. The words dissolve into the rest of the white noise as he stares up at the blue of the sky, and tries to remember if he’d ever had a hallucination as bright as this.

‘I have to be dead,’ he thinks. Somehow, he isn’t.

Or: Gojo Satoru goes back in time. He makes a couple of changes for the better.

    Summary

    Satoru knows his limits.

He knows just how far he can push his limitless before his brain begins to feel like it’s melting out of his ears.

He knows just how long he can use his six-eyes till even the sensation of clothes on skin begin to feel like knives piercing him all over his body rather than soft fabric and despite physically closing his eyes, the way he can still feel and sense and see everything regardless.

it’s a pain he’s learnt to deal with growing up.

Something to push to the back of his mind until the mission is over and until he can carry himself home into bed and try to sort through the painful buzzing of information in his brain as tears run down his face

Sometimes though, on the worse of those days

He wishes someone would knock on his door, wishes someone would tell him to stop being so stubborn and just hold him because how long had it been since he had actually touched someone else..

But what more can Satoru do than wish

    Summary

In the end, a part of Gojo truly had died that day — perhaps the most intrinsic part, important facets of his identity suddenly obliterated. A sorcerer’s life is shaped by awful, terrible things, rhythmed by horror and interspersed by sorrow, but the nature of this loss is new. It’s the mourning of the self, the one fatality Gojo was never prepared to grieve.

To witness his hurt is both a privilege and a curse.

(Or, Gojo and Nanami in the wake of war, in a kinder (?) world.)
