The only reason Steve volunteers to keep a journal to track Eddie Munson’s skim-milk memories, is because of the twerps.
They have school, they can’t commute to the government-protected hospital that’s all the way in the city. That, and they gave Steve this well-rehearsed, tearjerker performance about how grateful they would be.
About how grateful Eddie would be.
Pfft like shit on a stick, he’ll be grateful. The dude doesn’t even remember how old he is, how the hell is supposed to be grateful for Steve Harrington jotting down notes in binder?
But those kids have been through Spielberg-level disaster shit. Steve has too, but they’re just kids.
So he’ll do it. He’ll do it for them and only them.

“Yeah, okay, we all bitch about this band sometimes, and this contract is really intense, but you’re making it sound like you wanna leave.”
“I do wanna leave,” Eddie states with his full chest.
“W-what?” Steve stutters.
“I don’t want to be in the band anymore.”
or: steve, eddie, argyle, and jonathan are a part of a group called "love bites" that got marketed as a boyband, meaning they have to keep their relationships a secret. eddie has had enough of the new image and threatens to leave the band. steve interprets this as eddie wanting to leave him too.

“If he turns on us I’m blaming you.” Gareth grumbled finally, and tried not to let the smile that broke out on Eddie’s face effect him.
“Glad to hear you’re on board, Garebear.” Eddie said, patting his shoulder hard.
AKA the entirety of Hellfire, prompted by one Eddie, “herder of misfits, freaks and geeks” decide to expand their circle to adopt a jock instead.

Summary
Eddie doesn't particularly like the smell of blood.
However, he's growing awfully used to it.
It’s what he’s choosing to focus on. The smell of it. How it burns his nose. Clings heavy in his throat and fills his lungs with its thick, metallic haze.
That is, when he can breathe.
It’s awful hard to breathe.
But he’s trying. God fucking damn it, he’s trying. And it hurts worse than anything, worse than the bites or the torn flesh or the aching all over. It burns worse than the smell. He can’t tell if it’d be easier to breathe through his nose or his mouth, so he just sort of heaves with his mouth open and hopes that air gets in somehow.
He might be dying.
Steve says he’s not dying, very insistent on that, in fact, but Eddie’s not sure if he believes him.
