Summary
Noctis, a pure-blooded alpha, is in an arranged mating with his childhood friend and fellow alpha, Lunafreya. Together with his two best friends/retainers, Ignis and Gladiolus, he sets off to Altissia to publicly announce their courtship. But everything is turned off-kilter as Noct's rut begins and the Prince runs away. In his lust-crazed frenzy, he happens upon a very charismatic and strange beta named Prompto, who isn't afraid to beat the prince up if he has to. Strangely enough, Prompto and Noctis become very close friends and Noctis even makes Prompto a full-fledged retainer eventually as well! But King Regis is still pushing his relationship with Lunafreya, and Prompto is suddenly smelling oh so sweet, tempting and begging for Noctis to take him, and- Wait. Didn't Prompto say he was a beta? Things are going to get... complicated.

Now, if only Prompto could make him eat his vegetables…”
Gladio grunted. “Don’t give me that bullshit, Iggy. I know damned well you can see the storm brewing over there, just as well as I can.”

Summary
Noctis faces a lot of grief over the choice of mates the fate's have bestowed upon him.
A vampire and a lycan. There is a theory that the more mates one has, the more powerful one becomes. Noctis has two mates already, and yet, he still feels an emptiness in his chest where a third bond rests.
Ardyn has another opinion. Having a mate has done nothing but cause him grief, the magic flowing through his veins and extending his life was a curse.
Love was weakness. It made you vulnerable – it gave someone the power to destroy you. To love was to destroy, and to be loved is to be the one destroyed. Ardyn only wishes Noctis could see that.

There is a long, considering silence. “We will speak plainly,” the king says. “You would surrender yourself as hostage to Lucis against further Niflheim aggression?”
The chancellor smiles before turning back to the king, and there is little Prompto can do to calm his racing heart. “It will be an easy thing, should Your Majesty hold fast to your honor.”

Ignis pulls a whistling kettle off of the stove. Noctis twitches at his side, a threadbare sock tickling his thigh under a heavy knit blanket. Gladio must be nearby, too; Prompto can hear the deep rumble of his voice, sending a shiver down his spine unbidden.
Maybe there’s no one here at all.
He’s lying still enough to be dead, he thinks.
At least he can hardly feel the cold anymore.Prompto can take care of himself. He's mastered the art of it in the years he's spent on his own, carefully weaving a delicate veil of explanations for the prince and his entourage.
He can juggle his classes, his work, and the endless piles of bills in the entryway. He can get by on the meager scraps left for groceries when rent is due.
At least until a frozen pipe and an ever observant advisor make it impossible to keep up the farce.

Summary
With Gladio’s attention on what’s left of the wasps and mandrakes, slicing through them with reckless abandon, Prompto leaves his cover, guns down a second mandrake, takes off at a run for Noct.
He’s only a few feet away when a shadow leaps down on him from above.
The ground beneath his feet erupts. His body is flung forwards, SMG falling from his hands. He flips over, lands on his back roughly, grunting as he does, his ribs screaming out in protest. He struggles for breath, writhes in agony. Above, there’s a flash of silver in the orange light; a blade, heading right for his face. With a yelp, he rolls over, scrambles away, fingers digging into the mud for purchase. He risks looking up and pales.
Iggy raises his spear and attacks.
or: whilst traversing the Malmalam Thicket, Ignis gets a little bit... confused.

Set in the AU where sweet, bubbly Prompto did not escape the circumstances of his birth. Raised in Niflheim to become a daemon-infused, mechanically enhanced super soldier until obtained by Cor Leonis at the age of approximately 11, Prompto struggles to adjust to life in Lucis. He can barely understand what's expected of him day to day, let alone begin thinking of things over the long term. The adults around him are struggling too, unable to find a way through Niflheim's psychological conditioning to the scared kid they want to help rehabilitate.
As the weeks drag on without notable improvement, they are forced to consider more radical actions.

Prompto grew up listening to voices in a language he shouldn't have understood, falling asleep to stories about the King of Light and his Oracle, and their destiny to save the world from the darkness.
But with time, he learns. He learns that they are not stories, but prophecies. That the voices in his head are the voices of the gods, delivering their messages uncaring of whether Prompto wants to hear them or not.
