The tradition started the year after the battle for the Spire.
A year had passed since Nil stole Avad’s heart and ran with it west. The whirlwind but short-lived secret romance between the Sun-King and the elusive hunter that was doomed from the start only lasted a couple of passionate nights during the festivities of the winter solstice, yet it had been enough to keep a hold on Avad’s thoughts throughout the months to follow even in the other man’s painful absence.
By now a year had passed with no news, no message, not even so much of a rumor of Nil’s whereabouts. He had disappeared out of Avad’s life in a flash, just as abrupt and unpredictable as he had entered it.
