Carol looks Kris in the eye, and she says “you’re going to help me find her.” Sharper than she intends. It cuts her throat on the way out, the loss of December. Kris is crying. So is Carol. So should all of Hometown, loss so heavy it taunts her from its place in her stomach. She couldn’t protect her little fawn. What is she supposed to do now? What is there to do now?
Find her, her heart screams, pounding against her chest. Bring her home. She will, she will, she will.

Summary
The flashing lights do manage to drag him out of bed and to his window. It’s not the best view of whatever’s happening, and Nagisa can’t hear much of anything from four stories up, but he just manages to see a man being walked out to the back of a police car in cuffs. Ms. Yukimura is speaking to what seems to be a detective. It might just be his mind playing tricks on him, but he’s almost certain he sees a small black cat slink away into the forest.
He shivers hard without the warmth of his blanket. He’d overestimated ‘morning’ when he’d woken up. It’s dark and cold, and Nagisa had abandoned his blanket with his bed when he’d dragged himself up to the window. But it doesn’t really seem like there’s all that much to it. It can’t be any later than four in the morning, so he lets himself slip back into the warmth of his covers.
It takes him just a little bit too long to properly fall back asleep.

Summary
Here are the things she does know:
1.) Her name is December Holiday.
2.) The three most important people in her life are Noelle Holiday (her younger sister), Asriel Dreemurr (her best friend in the whole world), and Kris Dreemurr (Azzy’s younger sibling and Elly’s best friend). She likes music and baseball and sugar cookies. Her least favorite class is algebra.
3.) The darkness does not ever recede in this place, but her eyes do get used to it enough that she can see the ground.
4.) It is not strikingly different from Hometown. Sometimes it feels like a monochromatic funhouse mirror reflection of it.
5.) Even when she feels really and truly alone, piano music and choir voices catch hold in her chest, in the place where she thinks her heart is supposed to be.
