She wondered, sometimes, if it was just some fucked-up complex where she only wanted what she couldn’t have, if maybe she was developing some sort of kink for girls who lowkey hated her guts. Because how else could she justify the way she looked for Laila in every room, wanting to meet eyes that would be nothing but cold? Jiang Cheng looked… tense. He had his permanent frown lines etched on his forehead and a resting scowl on his face, but both seemed to be deeper than usual. The skin under his eyes was dark. His shoulders were drawn so high up they almost reached his ears.
“I thought the conference would never end,” Nie HuaiSang said in lieu of hello, seeing as Jiang Cheng wouldn't be breaking the silence anytime soon. He watched as he stepped out of his boots and slipped out of his outer robes. His movements were stiff and stilted. Receiving no response, Nie HuaiSang sighed internally. He knew what he had to do today.

“Oi, Shittykawa,” he says, voice raspy but firm. He holds back the urge to cough. Tooru looks up from where he’s putting Hajime’s feet through each pant leg. His brow is furrowed, but Hajime doesn't think Tooru even notices. “I’m fine, really. It’s probably no--”
“If you say ‘It’s probably nothing,’ Iwa-chan, I swear to God I will make Makki bring you nothing but my grandma’s brew for allergies for the rest of the day.”
Hajime clicks his mouth shut.

He peers into his room and flicks the light on. The first thing he notices is that all their posters are gone. The second thing he notices is that there’s someone else in Patrick’s bed—a gangly, narrow-faced dude who is tragically sideburnless.
Pete gasps. “What have you done to Patrick?”

His nose brushes against Cody’s, the stud there scraping skin. “What about you?”
“I just told you what I’m okay with, Jean,” they say, amusement lacing their tone. “We can keep going or never mention it again. Fine by me. We’re friends, right?”

A glance over his shoulder reveals Andrew is wearing the glasses he swears he doesn’t need, and has a thumb holding his place in the book that flops closed where it’s resting on his knee. Neil raises an eyebrow, and stretches his leg back so he can push at Andrew’s knee closest to him, returning the silent bid for his attention. Andrew doesn’t speak yet, but he snaps the band of the sock Neil is wearing, and Neil huffs, half turning over, fully pulled from his task. Andrew has always been much more interesting than his textbooks, anyways.
“Are you appreciating the view?” he asks, and his voice shatters the silence, but he isn’t loud, and Andrew’s eyes linger on Neil’s ass a moment longer in response.

Neil is nothing and everything all at once, the entire universe for Andrew, however small of a universe that is. Even Aaron is starting to see it, though the pieces still don't line up.
And Andrew is trying to convince Aaron that he's never jealous? Yeah right. You don't spend your entire life being denied, being hurt, going through foster care with nothing to call your own only to be okay with someone else trying to take the one bright piece of life you call yours.
