Summary
“Evan? Listen to me. You need to be okay, if you’re not okay I don’t know if I ever will be. Please be okay,” she pleads, desperately hoping more than anything that she’s imagining his breathing getting shallower.
How could she be okay? One of her hands is trying to force her brother’s blood to stay in his body, and the other is slowly unlocking his phone so she can call the man he’s in love with and tell him that Evan has been stabbed before he gets on a plane to move to Texas.
Or, Buck gets stabbed just before Eddie boards the plane to El Paso.

“I shouldn’t -”
“No, come on, what have you seen?”
“You don’t use your left hand unless you have to, you consistently favor your left leg, and you lean in closer a lot to hear people when they’re talking.”
“And what did that tell you?”
“That something happened to you, probably on the job, and probably not something you’ll recover from.”
OR Eddie joins the 118 after Buck is permanently disabled by an explosion at a call. Despite initial tensions, they learn just how important they can be to one another.

“You know,” Bobby said, looking thoughtful, “I might have a solution for you. There’s a childcare center near here called Save the Day. They aren’t open overnight, of course, but they are open until 9 with the option to stay a bit late if a shift runs long.”
Eddie stared at Bobby in wonder. “Holy shit. I should have told you about Chris during my interview for the station, that’s perfect! Wait– How much does it cost? I know childcare isn’t exactly cheap, and LA is already kind of expensive–”
“Everyone at the 118 gets a discount. Perks of having an in at the daycare.”
